@Solosidecousin I honestly don't know what to make of Matt's ramblings. he says that it's wrong to suppress Dark Side but also that no ordinary being can keep Light and Dark in balance. I think he's dodging the answer.

This is great, thanks for posting!!! I'm watching it now and hearing and all the comments/reviews (both professional and fan) when the OT first came out... I'm thinking wow, you could put them all verbatim into how the the ST has been reviewed (so far). You could just plug in TLJ wherever he talks about ESB...and there you go! I liked hearing about the mixed bag of reviews from fans coming out of ESB (mostly becuase their fan theories weren't realized...sound familiar?!)...and that it wasn't the beloved film it is now, until way after RoTJ...when people knew how it ends and were able to appreciate how it pushed the envelope and took the most risks of OT. So who knows, maybe a few years after IX comes out and we all get over the epic happy ending...(which btw, we ARE getting), TLJ may end up being the fav of the ST...because of all the risks it took....we'll see...
I feel the same and...

The discussion about Kylo Ren/Ben Solo's odds of survival in IX has been moved to the Fan Fatigue thread in Maz's Castle.

Look at his face on that little screen
He's gorgeous. More of this content please, and less of the negative sky-is-falling stuff. He looks like a prince here.

@Cowgirlsamurai
And who posted the favorite spaceship tweet on twitter (“Rey and Kylo doesn’t count”)?
That whole conversation made me laugh though.

Im gonna post this here - i havent seen anyone mention this podcast. Here it is transcribed: https://m.soundcloud.com/thedirectorscut/star-wars-the-last-jedi-with-rian-johnson-and-spike-jonze-ep-123
Rian: They were shooting the first movie while I was writing so I was watching dailies while I was writing […] That was one of the really nice things about the timing of it is I was able to see how the actors were bringing it to life and getting to see her and getting to see Adam and what he was doing. And the other thing that was really nice–I was writing before the movie came out so I was writing just based on my reaction to it and not based on the world’s reaction to it.
Spike: Oh yeah I loved the parts with their conversations, I mean that’s kind of like the spine of the whole movie for me was their conversations with each other and their relationship and where it goes and–
Rian: Yeah.
Spike: So now do you have ideas for where the third movie could or should go or things–because it feels like their relationship is still at the sort of–the core of it.
Rian: Yeah absolutely but I don’t–JJ and Chris Terrio are writing right now, the third movie and I–it’s a similar thing […] I sat down, similar to the way I sat down with JJ at the beginning of this process and just had a talk where it’s just–but it’s just like a talk, we like had lunch and it’s just like “here’s where I thought I brought it to, here’s kind of the things I think I set up” but then it’s the baton handoff and now I turn back into an audience member and it’s kind of exciting.

This is lovely!!!!! Thanks for sharing!!!
I love how it's reiterated once again that what we saw in TFA wasn't in our heads, and that Rian built upon that very non-platonic aspect. As far as that last part, Rian might as well come out and say yeah their story isn't over yet, even if he can't announce that outright. So beautiful!
