A YA novel based on the life of Ahsoka Tano is being released on October 11. It is written by E.K. Johnston and set between her departure from the jedi order and her taking up the role of Fulcrum with the resistance.

I just read the article and I found this bit about kyber crystals intriguing:

The white lightsabers Ahsoka has in Rebels are built in this book. Ahsoka collects various parts over the course of her wanderings to make the casings. But she completes the lightsabers with parts from the spinning dual one that used to belong to the Sixth Brother. She takes the specialty parts and the kyber crystals from that in order to make her lightsaber.
Ahsoka also says that the crystals feel familiar, saying that she thinks the crystals used by the Inquisitors were taken from the Jedi temple and infected with the Dark Side until they turned red, a.k.a. “making the crystal bleed.” She’s returned them to the light, which is why they’re white now.
I wonder if any of this would have any bearing on Kylo's messed up lightsaber? Isn't his crystal supposed to be cracked ... but is it cracked because it was

- I felt Kylo's crystal is symbolic of his nature...... it still has shades of yellow along with the red..... just like Kylo being torn between the light and the dark. I also wonder if the cracked crystal hints at his being captured by the FO and forced to join the dark side. It is interesting that normally sentinel jedi have yellow lightsabers- the ones who guard temples, are into espionage etc. If Kylo is redeemed, could it mean that he will eventually carry a white lightsaber?
DR mentioned in an interview that her favourite lightsaber colour is black with stars (sounds like the darksaber).....I would love a situation where Kylo carries a white lightsaber and Rey carries the darksaber.

- As Kylo's lightsaber is described as yellow-red, I've always wondered if it's really "meant" to be yellow. On the other hand, it looks a lot like a lava crystal: http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Lava_crystal
But lava crystals aren't canon... it's just an uncanny resemblance.
I wonder if Ben's lightsaber will eventually be orange.

- I think the cracked crystal could indicate a forced initiation into the dark side for a number of reasons. (1) I think someone on here once talked about a crystal cracking well people weren't fully committed in the forging process (2) They have really pushed the yellow side of his red-yellow saber. And remember how PH is always hinting that Luke and Ben were working on something. If Ben was somehow undercover in the FO at some point when he and Luke are still friends a couple of things could have happened. (a) He is caught and is forced under torture and indoctrination to convert his yellow saber into a red one, but it doesn't totally take, or (b) he feels betrayed by Luke and Republic and parents and has some mental manipulation and chooses to go for the red saber, but his light side and doubts make the forging go shaky, or (c) he is actually kidnapped from Luke with no lightsaber with him and they force him to use an old Jedi kyber crystal that doesn't belong to him, so once again the forging goes wonky. If he goes in with no lightsaber, it could mean he was actually using Anakin's lightsaber (why he would not have made his own might reflect on Luke being a bad teacher) and he will make a new one later on, showing transformation.
I have a question about Ahsoka's lightsaber. Was her original one white? The reason I ask is that I think that once the tainted crystals are purified it will turn into the color that he is supposed to have. If he never made a lightsaber, we don't know what his color will be. If he made one and it was yellow because he was Luke's "Inside Man", then it may return to yellow once he's in recovery.
Now does white equal purity? I don't know if Kylo/Ben would ever have a pure lightsaber. Or does white mean something else? I have always found the "black with stars" answer interesting too. I also remember that she said her favorite color was grey in that interview (though that could have been personal). If both go grey, both could have a black and starry lightsaber with some differences between each one based on various talents Rey and Kylo have.

- If I recall correctly, Ahsoka had green lightsabers when she was a padawan....but that is not a good indicator of what a person's lightsaber colour will remain permanently.....as a force user evolves, their lightsaber colour can also change..... for example, Obi-wan had a green lightsaber in TPM but he later creates a blue lightsaber to replace the one he lost.
From the spoilers, I gathered that the crystals Ahsoka retrieved from the sixth brother turned white when purified.....normally kyber crystals are blue, green or yellow.... I'm reading the novel right now and haven't reached this part yet so I can't confirm if the original colour of the crystal is white or is this the colour post-purification.
I completely agree with what you said about what could have happened to Kylo....especially the part where he could have been forced tto work with a crystal that wasn't meant for him.
About the significance of a white crystal- it means a person who neither aligns himself to the light or the dark (essentially someone who is grey).....that is the stand Ahsoka took after she left the jedi order...and I feel this description makes sense in the case of Kylo as well. I don't think there will be two darksabers.....that particular weapon is special and I can only see one person being able to use it...given DR described it in her interview and her being the "Anakin" of this trilogy, it seems only fitting that she use it.
Now I am thinking of that photo Rian Johnson posted of two salt and pepper shakers....what if this signifies their future lightsabers?

Oh @panki!!! I am sooooo loving your ideas on the white lightsaber and Rian's salt and pepper shaker Instagram. That would be just like Rian Johnson, not being literal on the surface, but going down another meta level .... and pepper would work.

Ahsoka's book can explain why Anakin's lightsaber called Rey [SPOILER] this book makes me wonder if, once the originally-intended person dies, the crystals can later call to someone else. That might be what's happened to Rey with Anakin's lightsaber crystal, and why it calls to her. It chose her. the Crystals chose Rey not because she is a possible Skywalker, but because the Crystals themselves needed to be restored. [1]
[2] The Bespin Blade was a part of some traumatic stuff, the killing of the younglings, then Luke losing his hand. The Crystals needed a new owner

The lightsaber doesn't call to Obi-wan. He just looks at the lightsaber in one scene and thinks that this is all that is left of Anakin...that whatever otherwise survived of Anakin is darkness...and he thinks of the other jedi survivors who are trying to find their way in the new order.

The lightsaber doesn't call to Obi-wan. He just looks at the lightsaber in one scene and thinks that this is all that is left of Anakin...that whatever otherwise survived of Anakin is darkness...and he thinks of the other jedi survivors who are trying to find their way in the new order.

Kanan's saber explicitly called out to Ezra so it's canon that saber calling out is not due to familial relationship.

@Spacebaby4567 I know. My comment was re: Reywalkers who point out Anakin saber calling to Rey as a proof that she's a Reywalker. No, it's canonical that sabers can call anyone. Plus, considering that they made a big deal out of "it was Luke's and his father's before him", only to reveal later that "that lightsaber, it belongs to [Kylo]", makes me think the call has more to do with the latter than with the former two. Also, that destroys their theory that saber was given to a direct offspring since Kylo isn't. Not to mention that Anakin saber never called out to Luke.

D***, now I am interested in this crystal color topic too. Actually it's not really the colors themselves but the fact that they can change or be made to change that intrigues me. And what I like even more is the idea that a crystal could rebel against the current owner or supposed owner. That Skywalker lightsaber flying by Kylo's nose was a very nice moment. I'd love it if it ends up flying by Rey's nose at one point
