Have seen people take it a step further and outright argue that Rey *shouldn't* have anything to do with Kylo's redemption or forgive him for that matter. Often these same people support Reywalker. Don't they remember what Luke Skywalker actually did in the OT? Yet they expect/want Luke's "daughter" to feel nothing but hatred for the antagonist...

Exactly. I've never understood their logic.

Re: Has the Kylo side of Reylo gained general acceptance?
I spoke to several co-workers. None of them is a Reywalker. They think the movie made it clear that Rey wasn't related to anyone and that Kylo's the only legacy.
One co-worker and his family are stumping for Reynobi and Reylo. They noticed Reylo right away.
Another co-worker is convinced Reylo is the endgame cause "otherwise there's nothing dramatic in Rey's story". He thinks her parents are not important beyond that they held her back from her potential.
Never met an anti in real life which means they are just typical keyboard warrior chickens.
Bonus: when I was watching Snow Fight on my laptop, my parents thought I was watching a porn. The sounds Reylo makes...

I spoke to a friend I know from GoT fandom, he's SW fan as well, but more of GA type.
He's not a Reywalker (thinks it's too complicated), he's pro Rey Kenobi (he understands SW as being all about lineage) and he definitely isn't against Reylo.

Re: Has the Kylo side of Reylo gained general acceptance?
@cowgirlsamurai In the interest of fairness, they discuss being confused on the parentage question and wondering if she's Leia's daughter. But the mind sex line made me laugh because of the Goop sounding explanation and they're the only reviewers who've noticed that Feeling the Force together is coded for sex. Abrams is on record saying the sound design for the tug of war between the two of them was influenced by Scanners. Which has a scene where the two leads explore each other's minds in a way that's pretty overtly sexual. I guess the Theremin Sonata line also hints at that.
Another good point in general about this review just gets into how Abrams gives the characters space to show who they are, especially for Rey. Kind of underlines a point @MeadowofAshes has made about TFA confounding a lot of fans because it uses the Feminine Gaze. Including just letting Rey be Rey in her introduction

Rey is everything. She is a desert orphan who can fix anything and fly everything and has a beautiful British accent and hates holding hands (poor well-intentioned Finn!) and despite being penniless and exhausted she somehow always looks like she is hitting the catwalk for the Nicholas K spring/summer 2015 ready-to-wear collection. I admired how Abrams found the time and space just to live with her for a little while, even in the midst of a jam-packed, fast-paced, ultra-blockbuster movie. Watching Rey sledding down the sand dunes, fixing her sad, rationed dinner—I would gladly watch the three-hour Jeanne Dielman version of that movie. In general I just loved looking at this movie, regardless of what was happening.

What I'm asking is whether the average Star Wars fan believes that Kylo Ren has a romantic/sexual attraction to Rey.
In my limited buzzing around Star Wars sites and videos, I find that a decent number of non-Reylo fans think Kylo has a crush on her, even if not reciprocated, or at least that it's a legitimate possibility. OTOH, I would assume the Reywalker "Ew! That's his cousin" faction remains pretty big.
So what say you?
I've had my share of arguments with people online who claim Kylo is only interested in her powers. It was romance-phobe Pablo of all people who confirmed that it was more than that.

@whatgirl Do you happen to have that tweet to hand? Not sure if ive seen it before, and still see people making the 'he just wanted to turn her and use her power' argument.

I do. It is archived in the SW Sequel Trilogy Tweets thread.

That tweet is still my favorite to date.
Kylux = wishful thinking
Stormpilot = wishful thinking
Kylo Ren's villainous crush = "Why do people think I'm going to answer these? Go with what TFA tells you."

@whatgirl Oh, thanks! I had seen that. Sorry I misunderstood, and thought it was him explicitly saying that Rey's force powers are not all Kylo's intrigued by.

@SacrebleuSacrebleu wrote:@SanghaRenSanghaRen wrote:It really made me wonder how TFA hit 2 billions and Rogue One half of it since the typical male audience preferred the second. Maybe the answer is in kids? Maybe they also preferred TFA? I mean in terms of toys and costumes, TFA is a clear winner. That being said, I know there are female posters who liked R1 too so I hope no one gets upset - never forget the comment comes from a Suicide Squad fan It just seems to me that the TFA female fanbase was split on R1. Coming back to the kids, if they are the ones who made TFA a bigger success, it makes you wonder if a nuanced twisted TLJ will do the job. I guess that's why they also include some cutesy creatures.
As I understand it, the saga films will always do better than the anthology films at the box office apparently because they are the main event, or main act so to speak? Just as the first film of each Star Wars trilogy has been the highest grossing; ANH did better than ESB and ROTJ and TPM did better than AOTC and ROTS. The exact reasons behind those phenomena are unclear to me.
Well, there's only one anthology film out right now, so difficult to say if that's a rule but I guess it makes sense that people go for the main story. It's like watching a TV show like X-files where you can really enjoy stand-alone episodes but are more intrigued by the mythology-focused episodes. And yes, after 30 years, it also makes sense that many people rushed to the cinema. Still, I am amazed that TFA reached 2 billions when you hear fanboys' complaints. I'd love to see some demographic statistics and how many people watched it more than once. It makes me realize as well that a) I don't know how the box office is actually calculated b) Is the box office really the best indicator of a film's success? For the producers, I guess yes, but to me it does not do justice to the cultural success of a movie. Anyhow, this is just the marketer in me that's intrigued

@SanghaRen
Cause overseas markets didn't care for RO. Both traditional markets where TFA did well (UK, Japan) and new ones where it didn't (China). The rest followed suit.
You can see numbers here:
TFA by market:
http://www.boxofficemojo.com/movies/?page=intl&id=starwars7.htm
RO by market:
http://www.boxofficemojo.com/movies/?page=intl&id=starwars2016.htm
But anyway, it has nothing to do with male preference or lack thereof, but with the return of OT characters in TFA. RO didn't have that advantage. It simply shows that OT ones made a difference.

Re: Has the Kylo side of Reylo gained general acceptance?
I have two younger brothers. I've recently discussed with themabout Star Wars.
First, they find RO better than TFA. The oldest one told me he didn't mind TFA but considered RO to be a better film because more in line with what he expects from a Star Wars movie. Neither of them has asked himself a lot about Rey's identity. They don't see Reywalker happening but have no idea where she could come from. They did'nt see Reylo either although the oldest one felt some unusual tension in their interactions. He was extremely disturbed by Kylo's character finding him totally unattractive despite being Han and Leia's son. And believe me people: my oldest brother is neither interested in males nor someone judging others by appearance. He is even the last person I would have expected to tell something so trash aboutthe appearance of someone else - male or female -so I was VERY surprised that he reacted that way to Kylo Ren. He found it even more disturbing to have the villain defeated in such humiliating way by an untrained girl who knows anything about lightsaber techniques and the Force.
Then, we have discussed about the arc of the ST and I have brought the idea of Reylo. Neither of them is against it but they didn't find it obvious. However, I showed them some evidences while watching the entire film and we also watched together the 1991 version of BATB. They seemed convinced by the evidences. I don't think that romance in general is something that they are eager to see in a Star Wars movie but it doesn't seem like the idea of Reylo disturbs them aslong as they get enough good action scenes. It doesn't seem like they see the patricide as a definitive barrier for some future Reylo romance so I guess that they would accept as long as love doesn't become the central plot of the trilogy. As for Kylo's evolution, well we've haven't discussed that much about it. I just know that they didn't find his character satisfying right now. So like my oldest bro says, he doesn't like especially TFA but thinks that the movie offers big potentiality for plot and character development in TLJ through.
