Aftermath: Life Debt by Chuck Wending
I thought it's a good idea to create a thread about the second novel of the Aftermath trilogy since Han and Leia will both be in the book and we'll be able to read their POV.Since it's coming the week after this one anyone who reads it can have a thread to discuss it here(hopefully this one will be better than its predecessor). Here are the synopsis:
The galaxy is changing, and with peace now a possibility, some dare to imagine new beginnings and new destinies. For Han Solo, that means settling his last outstanding debt, by helping Chewbacca liberate the Wookiee's home world of Kashyyyk.
Meanwhile, Norra Wexley and her band of rebels pursue AdmiralRae Sloane and the remaining Imperial leadership across the galaxy. Sloane, increasingly wary of the mysterious fleet admiral, desperately searches for a means to save the crumbling Empire from oblivion. Even as Imperial forces fight to regain lost ground, Princess Leia and the New Republic seek to broker a lasting peace.
But the rebel's hunt for Admiral Sloane is cut short after the disappearance of Han Solo and Chewbacca. Desperate to save them, Leia conscripts Norra, Sinjir, Jas, and the rest of their team to find the missing smugglers and help them in their fight for freedom.

Great idea! I do want to read the new book that's coming out to get the Han/Leia POV stuff.
I'm not particularly interested in the first book in the trilogy, though. I'll be curious to read what those of you who have read it think, as far as whether it's necessary to read the first book before reading Life Debt.

It was a dull read but spoiler packed.... you can skip it but it might be advisable to listen to a few spoiler reviews on youtube before starting the next book..... it will give you a little info on the characters like Norra, Sinjir and Jas.
Since this book deals with the freedom of the Wookie planet Kashyk, I'm wondering whether two images from the clone wars unused concept art released by Dave Filoni during last year's SW Celebrations might be related to this novel.... some of the other concept art has already appeared in other comics and books.

Anyone managed to pick up their copy yet? I probably won't read it, but I'm intrigued to hear opinions of it. I also stumbled across a very interesting yet very small spoiler on tumblr today that made me laugh a little.

Re: Aftermath: Life Debt by Chuck Wending
I just saw that!IMO,Apparently Hux is :
- Spoiler:
an illegitimate child who's considered to be "weak willed, but has potential"and his first name is Armitage.
Now I'm really starting to belive Rey is Brendol Hux's illegitimate daughter.Seriously why mention him and his father in a book centering around Han liberating Kashyyk and those send to help him(I know it might be for other reasons but still).I mean Rey being Brendol's daughter and being strong willed could contrast Hux being weak willed.

Yep! That's the one lol!
- Spoiler:
- Poor Hux! Having Armitage as a first name! It comes the Old French word "hermite", as well as from the Greek "eremos", meaning solitary. I guess this could be an interesting glimpse into Hux's life if his name means anything. He could've felt alone because of his illegitimate status, both among his father and the Academy recruits. But maybe he could've also strived to please his father and live up to his legacy, hence his defending of the Stormtrooper program (which was started by his father) after Kylo Ren says clones would be better.
Regardless, here's a brilliant and very interesting meta by none other than @nonesuch herself regarding Hux:: http://starwarsnonsense.tumblr.com/post/146954584254/dreams-of-empire-or-hux-and-kylo-as-snokes

- Spoiler:
It's really interesting that they choose Hux to be an illegitimate child because we don't have any real examples of illegitimate children outside of him in the SW canon so I don't know how the SW universe would threat an illegitimate child vs a legitimate one.I would love to have a book centered around the relationship between Brendol and Armitage(lol.
And that theory@nonesuch has is really awesome and I hope it's true .Imagine if my(crack)theory about Rey being Brendol's daughter does turn out to be true and she finds out her brother murdered their father.

- Spoiler:
- I know! I was very surprised to learn of Hux being illegitimate. Especially being under the Disney license! But it definitely gives a little bit more insight to the relationship between Hux and his father, as well as ripe opportunities to fully explore it. It would also be interesting to see the relationship between Hux and his step-mother and if he knew his biological mother at all. But yes that theory by @nonesuch is excellent and if it turns out to be true, shows that maybe Kylo and Hux aren't so different after all. I don't think Rey will be Hux's sister though as I doubt Hux will be developed enough. He is after all, a secondary character whose purpose is for the audience to compare and contrast with Kylo Ren. His backstory and character is one to be developed in expanded canon such as this book.

Re: Aftermath: Life Debt by Chuck Wending
Sorry but something doesn't compute.
- Spoiler:
- Aftermath takes place while Leia is pregnant with Ben. How big is age difference between Hux and Ben? Can't be more than 2-3 years. So if little Armitage is 2 or 3, how does his father know that he's useless already? It sounds like they are talking about older boy, possibly a teenager. I mean, why would Sloane care about a toddler's potential when securing Empire's reign is her pressing matter right now? Unless the story makes a big timeline jump.
Also, Hux's last name is Hux. That sounds like legitimate son. Brendol Hux had a wife and likely more children with her. perhaps Armitage and Mili's owner are not the same person.

- Spoiler:
- Hmm... now that you mention that, you're right. Hux was born four years before the battle of Endor so that would make him thirty-four in the film. Unless Brendol actually thinks that a three-to-four year child is useless and weak at that age (which is pretty messed up) it could be another character and one we will see in the new Expanded Universe. But I don't know, if it is Hux, he easily could've been legalised (possibly as a reward from Snoke). Time will tell.

If you ask about a certain character name, I'm not gonna confirm what may or may not be in Life Debt since most haven't read it yet.

OK, looks like the info was already in the Visual Dictionary, because Wookiepedia cites it as the source for the same info and name (see 6). Weird:

@Darth_Awakened Ah Pablo! the mystery deepens! I think he'll confirm it later down the line though, when it's been out long enough.

@vaderito
- Spoiler:
- Thanks! I've seen that . I don't know, the stormtroopers were kidnapped and conditioned as babies and that was started by Brendol. Those who were deemed to weak were killed. Now that I think of it, I wouldn't put it put it past Brendol put General Hux through the Academy and a rigorous training scheme at a very young age and think he was weak and useless when he struggled and couldn't keep up with it.

Re: Aftermath: Life Debt by Chuck Wending
I just checked Kylo's Wookiepedia page and it says:
Aftermath: Life Debt (Indirect mention only)
The Force Awakens Golden Book (First identified as Ben Solo) ?????? is this canon? Pablo says he is only Ben for now.
http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/The_Force_Awakens_(Golden_Book)
http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Kylo_Ren
BTW, has anyone read this?
http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/The_Force_Awakens:_Rey%27s_Story
ikely not canon but I'm curious about her POV on Kylo. I guess some kiddie sith.

We have the Little Golden Book for TFA. It's an adaptation aimed at very young children. He is referred to as Ben Solo in there, but I wouldn't read anything into that. It also completely omits the interrogation scene.

Thank you! I thought so. Just simplification for kids but not canon (as if kids care about canon).
So illegitimate child Hux, does it mean Luke's One Night Stand is back on table?

cause putting a villainous one night stand in a book that will be read by 1% of fandom is the same as giving the hero of OT a one night stand in a movie that billion people will see.
