The red section makes me think of Snoke and Kylo's working with him. Kylo knows this is bad, he knows he is "in over his head", but still thinks he "has to to go through with it" for some purpose, but hopes that somehow the ends will justify the means for whatever goal he has, and that he can escape this dark road he's on ("the final warning").  This is not a "gets eviler" set of lyrics.  This is someone who is very upset at what he thinks he has to do.

But in the orange section the self doubt about it all starts to creep in.  He knows he's done wrong.  He knows that his soul, himself, every bit of him is in utter jeopardy, and then comes the self-loathing ("not worthy").

I think that in the green section he could be talking to a number of people, and maybe that's he has done this kind of calling out ("Is anybody calling? ... Why can't I feel you?!"), and that the calls have gone to different people as time went on. 

I think the first call would be to his parents, building on that sense of abandonment that AD and JJ talked about.  This will be especially true if there is a specific moment of abandonment that @ISeeAnIsland has talked about.  For example, the parents' believing he is Anakin 2.0 when the situation is probably more complicated.  Perhaps, Snoke and/or the KoR pointing out that the parents never thought anything of him, so they believe the worst of him.  This would be compounded if he could actually read their suspicions about him from his childhood.  Further, Han and Leia always rescue someone any other time, but for some reason it doesn't seem like they went after him, hence the "I've been waiting for you for a long time."

Then I think it could also indicate a call to Vader, because once the parents were gone, he turned to Vader.  In TFA he asks Vader to show him the "power of the darkness again", but it seems like Vader is not answering now.  It's like he heard from Vader at some point, but now he's asking "Are you with me after all ... Why can't I feel you?"

The third option is the "visions of Rey", dreams/daydreams/nightmares option that is hinted at in the novelizations and in the script when they "recognize a familiar energy", "aren't advisaries for a moment", and the "it is you!"  She may have been something lovely that he held onto, but now he has lost her ... and then when the fights ends like it does, he must really fear he's lost her.

I think that the blue section reflects how he is "torn apart" before and after Han's killing.  I also find the mention of the "voices haunting" to be very interesting.  Are these the voices of darkness that have been with him since he was a child (Snoke, UR darkness, Acolyte of the Beyond type of dreaming)? Are these voices of people he has hurt? Are they both? Does the aftermath of the fight with Rey kind of leave him hopeless and not know what end is up?  I further think this section where the "call" and the asking someone to "stay with me" starts to shift towards Rey.  He's begging not to be let go, because without this person he will have have "nothing left at all".

By the time we get to the final violet section, I think that it's all about Rey now because (1) the mention of "heaven" indicates a kind of angelic, "savior", light-filled person (like the SWC "Call to the Light" art) that Rey probably is to him; (2) the "take my hand, stay with me, don't let me go", goes, along with the entirety song, quite well with his beseeching request that she let him be her teacher.  He wants her to stop fighting him, take the hand/offer he makes and stay with him, not letting him go.  And finally (3), the 'nothing left at all" disappears in favor of "Shine until there is nothing left but you."  He's attracted to her light.  He's desperate for her light.  She might be able to save him.  (There are other songs in the playlist that indicate this idea as well).  She can drown out the darkness.  She becomes the only thing in the universe that matters to him and he's desperate not to lose her.

As I listened to this song, it was incredibly clear that this was not a villain or "eviler" kind of song.  It is full of regret for sure, but the person is desperate for love, connection, not to be alone, to be saved so he doesn't "miss the final warning."

I think it's pretty extraordinary that the marketing people chose this song for Kylo, the supposed villain.  It's not just very Reylo, but it shows intense vulnerability, the need for love, support, connection ... iow, the "vulnerable warlord."   Maybe the same people who wrote that line in the databank picked out this song.

I think that there is a possible to take a literal "Mustafar" take with Padme and Anakin on this one, but what does everyone think about Han/Leia and Rey/Kylo?  And should we take any hints that this song was chosen for the main woman character for each trilogy? Is it simply a case of them all having tumultuous relationships?

I actually didn't see that, but "duh", lol, absolutely!!! I was so focused on the relationships burning to the ground that I was almost hesitant to get into it with regards to Reylo, but then I just figured that they would "start off" with "smoke and fire".  But you are absolutely right.  All the rumor stuff indicates a relationship that the woman is "not supposed to have" by whatever "society standards", but she does anyway ... and with all the "fire", "heat" "smoke" talk, there is something irresistably sexual in these relationships, like a whole "moth to the flame" kind of thing. 

I have not looked very closely at the Padme list, but I personally really like her being assigned this song.  Not just because of the obvious relationship "burnt to the ground" implications, but because IMO that Anidala relationship had a real sexual component to it that the movie (but not the costume designer) completely denied.  I mean I am immediately brought back to Padme in that black leather dominatrix corset as she tells Anakin that they can't be together, lol.  Robot Chicken actually did a hilarious bit where Padme is wearing that outfit and telling Anakin that they can't be together, yet she's doing all these ... uh ... cartwheels in his face and other gymnastic moves, lol.  IOW, she says one thing, but with her body she indicates something else entirely.  I always thought that there was a "this hot boy is after me, and will worship me" attraction with Padme to Anakin.  This song seems to acknowledge that, which is cool.

Also, with regards to Leia, I have listened to a bit more of that playlist, and OMG, it is full of songs where the woman logically "knows better", but just can't not be with the guy, thus hinting a massive sexual chemistry thing between Han and Leia ... which fits perfectly with how their relationship has been portrayed in the ST and the new canon materials.  They love each other, but they need drama, passion.  They need the fight, the separation, and the insanely great make-up sex.  It makes for a fantastic, passionate, "come and go" kind of relationship where it's fine and actually for the best for people to be apart months at a time ... but it is an extremely bad type of relationship for people with a young kid to have.

And onto Rey ... her being put into this category of "can't resist the bad boy due to intense sexual attraction" is reflected in some of the other songs in her list as well, but I think her list may be more empowering in terms of romantic relationships than the Leia one, because Leia seems to have a number of "Are you going to leave me or not?" kind of songs, whereas Rey's songs, though indicating sexual attraction, also shows a feistiness, a "oh I want you baby, but this is how it's going to be" type of feeling.  That feisty aspect may bode well for Reylo.

Okay, I will try to take a stab at this Angels Fall song.  I actually think that there are a couple of takes on it.  The first one is a fairly simple Han and Kylo take. 


For this first take, Kylo's "words/thoughts" will be in red, and Han's will be in green.

So in the first red section, Kylo is giving up.  He is giving up himself to the darkness.  I think that he is doing it out of a kind of despair.  That "I walked the path ..." line in italics could be interpreted, especially with the "Remember", as him remembering whatever he did with Luke.  The second italicized, bolded line indicates to me that he thinks that there is no coming back from that, he's ruined, with "nothing left to give forever."

The next green section is arguably Han.   Han is selfish and reckless, but when the world is going to hell in a hand-basket, he comes through.  He saves people at their worst moments.  He saved Chewie, Luke, Leia (from Hoth).  He will finally save his "fallen angel" son.  The "grey skies" line could be argued as an assurance of hope to his son.

But then the next line, the "I fought the fight" line, could be argued to be Kylo saying, "It's over.  I tried.  It's done." Han then answers with the "Divided I will stand," indicating his nature, how he wants to run from this, but won't this time.  But then Kylo answers, with the "And I will let this end", as if to say, "No! Stop already! I can't take this going on anymore!"

Then the rest is Han saying to him, "I'm not giving up on you! I don't care what you say!l,"... and in the italicized section, Han could be saying that Ben needs to remember this moment, because the darkness (of the sky ... and him) will leave, things will change, don't leave yourself and your soul behind because of this moment, and with the "never say goodbye", I think Han could be saying something like "I will always be with you.  I've forgiven you."

The second take is more of a predictive one for a time past TFA when Rey has learned more about him.  There Rey would play the Han role.  Like she fixed the MF, she can fix his brokenness and she won't give up on him and encourages him, with her voice overpowering his internal darkness.

The third take I see is a much more a divided-self Kylo/Ben situation with some Rey thrown in.  Here the hopeless side (Kylo) will be red, and the more hopeful side (Ben) will be blue.

Like before, the first red section is despair.   It's like "I've fought the darkness and it's won.  Come take me as your own then, because I can't take the uncertainty anymore."  However, I put that "I walked the path" line in purple here because I think it could mean "remember I did bad stuff with Luke", but I also think that there could be a more theological/philosophical thing in there, like "I tried that path.  There were wrong things on that road.  Maybe this really is the better choice."

But then in this interpretation the refrain is a manifestation of how meeting Rey took him out of his own head.  All of a sudden all his opinions and morose thoughts are sidetracked by the thought that he can "save" this scavenger who has "broken wings" in that she has been beaten down by life, that he can teach her how to use her power, that he can somehow better her life.  And the italicized section gives a hint that at the darkest possible moment she might be his salvation, that he could live differently with her, with the "forever" maybe indicating he could love her.

The next section is "Kylo" and "Ben" fighting each other in his mind.  One is hopeful for the new life she presents saying that the light won't be chased away any longer, while the other insists that only "darkness" is left.  The hopeful side answers with "Divided I will stand" indicates something like "I don't care if I'm screwed up, I'm going to try for her."  And then the other tells him with the "this will end" the equivalent of "forgettaboutit!!!"

For the rest the hopeful side overpowers the conversation, with perhaps the non-angry Kylo/Ben on the ground after the fight, looking worried/forlorn, who calls out her name like he wants to tell her something, is saying something to Rey like "there is more to me than you think and I won't forget you."

"Blue Jeans" is by far my favorite song on Rey's playlist.

It's so random, if you think about it. First of all, it's from Lana Del Rey's 2012 album, not even her most recent one. So for people who say, "Oh they're just choosing a song from her because her name has 'Rey' in it" um, yeah nice try but there are sooo many other songs they could've chosen if that was their angle. Specifically they could've chosen her most famous one that actually hit mainstream radio, "Summertime Sadness" which would make even more sense than "Blue Jeans" because it's about summer (desert Jakku) and leaving (her parents).

Anyway "Blue Jeans" is about being in love with a criminal who keeps leaving.¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Honestly it would make more sense being in Leia's playlist because Han's the one who kept leaving and was "chasing paper" while literally wearing a "white shirt". But it's not on Leia's playlist, it's on Rey's...

So if it isn't for a Reylo romance, why is it on there?
