Re: Episode IX: Spoilers and Rumors
I know it sounds dreadfully churlish of me....but I was actually disappointed on reading Poe's speech from the comic. It seems they are going with "the Resistance are all noble good guys" when I actually was hoping to see a little less black and white in IX.
But....that might be what we are supposed to think.

JJ likes to cast his friends, but sometimes for very small roles, like Snap Wexley.
I'm really wondering how the plot is supposed to work out if all these other people are already done. Domhnall confirmed in some tweet or another that he's already done with filming as well. If Keri's role isn't that big and Hux's part is already in the can, who exactly is left on the First Order side? Richard Grant and/or Matt Smith possibly?
It almost makes me wonder if we're not going to get something completely out of left field where all this Resistance vs. First Order stuff is nothing more than a red herring (or wrapped up early; akin to Jabba in RotJ) and the real main plot is going to be Rey and Ben going someplace else entirely (i.e. some sort of Force-related quest).

Re: Episode IX: Spoilers and Rumors
I imagine that Hux' scenes don't involve elaborate action scenes or being outside much, and would be pretty quick and easy to shoot compared to some other characters'.
Re: Episode IX: Spoilers and Rumors
I dont think Domhnall is done filming, he said in the same interview that he’s flying back and forth between London and Ireland, you could literally do a return journey on the same day! I think we’ll see more of Hux

Re: Episode IX: Spoilers and Rumors
@Chris24601 The fact we haven't been seeing any "official" set photos yet, and that all the production seems to be happening in Pinewood up to this point, makes me think LF is really keeping whatever they're doing under wraps even more than usual. All we've seen so far is Resistance stuff, no Rey/Kylo/Hux anything. There's no way any of that is leaking unless LF wants it to. Snoke and Luke both dying, Yoda's appearance, etc. stayed completely hidden until TLJ came out as well.

I'm hoping "force-related quest" being the vehicle for this film.

Re: Episode IX: Spoilers and Rumors
There has been no news about Domhnall being done with filming, pretty sure he’s probably flying back and forth. Besides, there’s this from today: https://star-wars.pl/News/23451,Zdjecia_z_planu_Epizodu_IX.html
It says General Hux on that piece of equipment in that one photo.
Also, Dominic Monaghan was on this podcast on 25th September and he talked about IX. Around 1hr 30 min:
https://itunes.apple.com/gb/podcast/dominic-monoghan-distraction-pieces-podcast-scroobius/id929136539?i=1000420456819&mt=2
I just skipped near the end because someone said that was the relevant part on twitter so maybe someone can comb through the whole thing as it’s pretty long as I’m not really in the mood to do that right now:
So it looks like JJ is indeed shooting in order, or Act one at the very least. Also confirms that Dominic seems to have a small part and is mostly Act 1 based. This makes me think that Keri might already be done with her part too, but who knows. Act 2 and Act 3 both have massive sequences.
This is also very interesting in conjunction with Adam’s appearances off set and what not.

*JJ supposedly completed the first draft of the script around the time of the World Cup this summer, around the time of the England-Colombia game, because that’s when Dominic got the email (at the start of the game) that he told him he might have a part.
*Dominic: ”Then probably a month ago, Disney got in touch with my agents and said ‘this is the timeframe, this is how much we want done to be available.’ Because JJ is a friend of mine, he had said to me ‘you know at some point you’ll get the opportunity to read the script -it’s obviously under lock and key’- he said, ‘just be aware of the fact that there’s massive sequences in act 2, there’s massive sequences in act 3, but because we’re shooting act 1 first I’ve put you in there and you seem to not be around as much in act 2 and act 3, but that’s because that’s what we’re doing first. I want you here, I want you invested.’ So he said ‘Read the script, but just know that it won’t be long until there’ll be a redraft of those things and we’ll see a little bit more.’ So I read it, and the script is amazing and obviously there’s not a lot that I can say.”
*He also says that walking around those sets has been amazing and all in all, he has another six weeks to go (of filming his parts, I assume).

Re: Episode IX: Spoilers and Rumors
@Kylo Rey Given that this is the finale of the trilogy (or when it's nine movies, do we call it a nonology?), I'm not surprised that there might be massive things happening early in the movie. The Battle of Endor starts before the halfway mark in RotJ, yes? (even though I think it's too long)
I also think back to HP, where most of the books would take a long time to build up to the big action, but in the last book/movies, it hits the ground running and really doesn't stop.
TLJ/ESB/AotC are the more slowly-paced second installments to spend a lot of time on certain characters and their development, often when those same characters are isolated from each other. But come the end of the series, it's just all of the action and character drama right out the gate.

Re: Episode IX: Spoilers and Rumors
Re: the main plot, unfortunately I think that Resistance vs FO is pretty much going to be it. It's IMO way too late in the game to bring in a brand new force storyline introducing a big threat to the galaxy that's about something force-related rather than the FO.
Generally speaking (and I'm speaking strictly about the SW films), the force stuff doesn't really seem to have all that much consequence for the galaxy. Yes the two Big Bads of the series were dark siders, but at the end of the day their threat was mainly military, political or both. The presence of dark siders in itself may disrupt the balance or whatever, but it doesn't send the universe crashing down or anything like that and it seems to go on just fine.
Maybe it's just hard to do a force storyline in a modern blockbuster without some kind of concrete physical object like the One Ring in the LotR movies, which must be destroyed or prevented from being destroyed etc. Otherwise it just all ends up too vague.

Woah ok . Hope all is ok with Adam . Sounds intense whatever they are filming that they need him to rehearse all weekend.

Re: Episode IX: Spoilers and Rumors
It sounds like filming is moving into the action-heavy scenes of Act 2.
There is no way to know for sure, but going by the known movements of the main cast and key supporting characters, it seems like Act 1 will be mostly Resistance action. We have seen shots from filming of Resistance scenes involving OI, JB and NA. It looks like Dominic Monaghan might be with the Resistance or maybe someone initially helping Rey with Jedi stuff. We also know that Domhnall Gleeson has been on set and filming with Adam Driver as DG mentioned it during The Little Stranger press. Both DG and AD don’t appear to have been on set since late August/early September though. Keri Russell also talked about flying in for Star Wars around the start of filming. She could just have been there for an initial table read or something, but I’m still holding out hope for her to be with the First Order in some capacity. She might be filming something else now but IX doesn’t wrap until next February. Domhnall Gleeson also has another project going on but Oscar Isaac shot Annihilation while filming TLJ (both were at Pinewood though) so it’s not unheard of for actors to be involved in multiple things at the same time.
I don’t think either Matt Smith or Richard E Grant have done any filming on IX yet. Both have been mostly away from the U.K. since filming began. There has been a sighting today of Matt Smith flying out from JFK back to London, so maybe he will be there for some Act 2 scenes.

Re: Episode IX: Spoilers and Rumors
From REDDIT: new set leaks in Jordan??
“A bit of background (OP here):
So, I was driving through Wadi Rum, Jordan (I live in Jordan) for some nice desert camping, and I happened to stumble across a big tent city with some props. Wadi Rum is a large desert nature preserve in southern Jordan. A brief overview of what we saw:
1) Saw several rigs that were supposed to be some sort of landspeeders (one looked a lot like Rey's orange creamsicle speeder); these whizzed by rather quickly and I was not able to get a good photo.
2) Pretty sure we saw Daisy Ridley (or perhaps another actress) getting a guided tour on a camel, with a heavy police escort.
3) Drove past the film set you see in the photo album. There were all sorts of tents, a lot of cut-outs of alien figures (looked a lot like Neimoidians), and pylon-sort of things. Looked like Jakku.
4) There is a big tent city with trailers, large MSU-style tents, and shipping containers. I am guessing this is where they construct a lot of the props, etc.
5) While trying to leave Wadi Rum the next day, were told to take a different path as they were filming in a certain area using a lot of pyrotechnics (!!!).
I won't share the exact location (Wadi Rum is a big place), but it will be interesting to see Wadi Rum in the finished product. Wadi Rum is used to film a lot of movies, including "Lawrence of Arabia", "The Martian", and "Rogue One" (a lot of the establishing shots of Jedha were filmed there).
I would also like to take the opportunity to plug desert excursions in Wadi Rum; really nice place with stunning scenery.”

Ohhhhh nice - thanks for sharing ! I’m certainly intrigued by this set up and the mention of the cardboard cutouts. Unless it’s for an entirely different film but I’m latching into anything right now

Re: Episode IX: Spoilers and Rumors
I don't recognize Jakku (lack of sand dunes), I see more Tatooine or Jedha. I associate Jakku with yellow colour and sand; and Tatooine canyon and Jedha with red colour and rock.
And yet, I would like Rey to return on Jakku to find her parents' graves and get closure on her past.
More important question, why are there Neimoidians? (Them I recognize.)
As someone who want parallels with TMP, it would make me happy, but it will be strange to see them pop up in the last movie.

Re: Episode IX: Spoilers and Rumors
My thoughts? Because it would be the height of irony for the series to end with the Resistance basically assembling the original Separatist coalition in order to defeat the Corrupt Galaxy-spanning Government. Alternatively, it could be that after the downfall of the Separatists, the Neimoidians got hit so hard economically by the Empire the entire species basically turned to organized crime (basically second-rate Hutts).LadyGaufrette wrote:More important question, why are there Neimoidians? (Them I recognize.)
Either way, I think it points towards the Resistance allying itself with more unsavory forces to try and beat the First Order and possibly greying the conflict up quite a bit. Indeed, I could see a sort of factional split where Hux’s First Order allies are the black hats (strongest), Poe’s Resistance are the dark grey hats (next strongest) and Rey, Finn and Rose are the white hats (weakest) and Kylo/Ben’s forces are the light gray hats (third strongest) that Rey redeems and gives the White Hats the ability to beat the black hats and dark gray hats.
I’ve been watching a lot of the Girls With Sabers YouTube channel lately (so nice to NOT have anti-TLJ/Reylo in every SW-related video in my Recommendation feed for once) and I must say, I really like their observation that, given how Poe was practically raised by Leia, that means Ben and Poe had to have grown up together (and Poe possibly bullying Ben when they were younger puts a very interesting spin on Kylo’s roughness with Poe at the start of TFA... Poe doesn’t know Kylo is Ben, but Ben knows exactly who Poe is) and how Poe will end up as the Wickham/Gaston of the trilogy (faux charming, but actually rather sociopathic) to Ben’s Darcy/Beast (socially awkward, screws up with Elizabeth at first, but ends up redeeming himself in her eyes by the end). As such, I love when stuff surfaces pointing to the Resistance under Poe taking a darker direction because that fits right into that analysis.

This isn’t canon. The Poe Dameron comics and other official media have established Poe didn’t meet Leia until nearer the events of The Force Awakens. He didn’t grown up around Leia and her family and he and Ben did not know each other as children.
The end of the Poe Dameron comic also showed him to have matured as a leader. I get why people don’t like it or agree with this depiction, but I’m not personally expecting Poe to be anything but a heroic commander in Ep IX. It’s possible he and Rey might still clash over Kylo/Ben’s fate, I just don’t believe it’s going to go down the way some are speculating.
This is Star Wars and Poe is totally among the heroes, like it or not. None of the canon material is pointing towards him going dark after TLJ. If anything, JJ will lean more into ‘Poe, The Resistance Hero’ as he favoured the uncomplicated approach in TFA. The main conflict and resolution must surely be between Rey and Kylo/Ben. I just don’t think there is time for petty Resistance squabbling now when TLJ had Rey, Poe, Finn and Rose finding their place on the light side fight.

Re: Episode IX: Spoilers and Rumors
@YeeRees
you're right- Poe wasn't raised by Leia and it's unlikely he met Ben Solo before his fall - that said...I do believe there is a subtle rivalry between the two.
Poe is kind of a surrogate son for Leia- or at least that's how Kylo/Ben perceives it. His mother sent him away because he wasn't good enough and she replaced him with "perfect", uncomplicated Poe. I don't think he will go "full dark bad guy" in IX but it's possible they show that war is always nasty and I can totally see him still sticking to "the goal justifies the means" theme he kind of had in TLJ? We'll see- I hope it will be more complex than boring "hero of the resistance" he was in TFA.

Totally agree with you. I am not a fan of Poe in TLJ, but I don’t understand the ongoing discussions on Poe still making questionable choices in IX. As Carrie Fisher said regarding the reason why Ben does not kill Leia in TLJ after having killed Han in TFA: redundant. TLJ went at great lengths to show Poe understood his lesson. I personally have moved on and accepted that most certainly Poe will be depicted as the rightful Resistance Leader in IX whether I like it or not. And after having seen TLJ many times now, I can say I still clench my teeth in some scenes with Poe, but I don’t think I’d like it neither if they undo him having learned his lesson in IX.
