- Spoiler:
I guess the Mandos in this age just... don't remove their helmets at all? Lol? This is setting up something fun for the future!
The next arc is going to be about gathering other friends and allies and continuing to run from the remnants of the Empire that wants to retrieve the asset.
- Spoiler:
I was like, hygiene, eating...basic functions all have to be done with the helmet on? Must make reproduction interesting. And here I was blaming the small number of Mandos on the Great Purge.
What I know about Mandalorians is very light (became a SW fan because of TLJ, and trying now to catch up - watching specific Rebels episodes)...yet it does seem that they adapted in interesting ways from shortly before Rogue One/the OT to shortly after the timeframe after OT, which is (what) ~10 yrs? Very interesting!
- Spoiler:
- I did feel a sad empathy for Leia. She, and Mon Mathma, etc are REALLY working to build the New Republic, yet they are seen as ineffective. When Mando said the New Republic is a joke, I thought "ugh, hugs for Leia, etc" and I thought too - Ben is ~4 yrs old now
Speaking of Rebels, there is hope Bo-Katan will have a live-action appearance in The Mandalorian season 2, because her voice actress (who is a wonderful live action actress - Katee Sackhoff) recently tweeted something about exciting news, but she can't say anything more. Perfect actually, because SW fans will recognize her name, be excited about that angle, and people new to SW but have seen her on Longmire, etc will see a recognizable character actress. Hoping!
Definite sign The Mandalorian feature the culture/civilization (along with the royalty, and the flashbacks, with his purple robes - definite royalty or upper class), along with bounty hunting (my basic hope for this show prior to airing is that both had importance, not only bounty hunting).

@MaddieDoveMaddieDove wrote:I keep hearing that actually the series is not as it was marketed (gritty, testosteron fueled). Can someone explain to us who can't/won't see it at this time, without being too spoilery, in what sense? I don't need to know the plot points, just a general idea (style, tropes?). Thanks!
I had zero interest in it before, and then the two smartest women I know (my sis, and my teenage daughter who is young enough that she is not technically a woman yet, but you get the idea) both loved it. So I watched it, and it just gets better and better— just saw episode 3. Yes, he has his loner/ strong silent type moments. But he also plays well with others, to use kindergarten parlance. He has a past that we are slowly learning about, and there’s the past and future of his tribe. He’s a bounty hunter, but his morality/ethics aren’t limited by that. Right now it’s been mostly male characters, but there are more female characters on the way based on the cast list, and I’ll be interested to see how that plays out. Despite the 95% male cast so far, though, and the bounty hunter/ action-adventure thing, it doesn’t feel macho to me. So, that’s one perspective.

Re: The Mandalorian, Disney+
Baby Yoda got his own VF article.
https://www.vanityfair.com/hollywood/2019/11/the-mandalorian-star-wars-baby-yoda
They were preparing to shoot a blank slate of the sequence as a backup in case they decided during postproduction that the puppet wasn’t convincing enough and a digital version had to be substituted.
Herzog, known for films about pushing the limits of human ability and endurance, could not hide his contempt.
“You are cowards,” he declared. “Leave it.”

Re: The Mandalorian, Disney+
I don't know whether I should call this show "a massive fail" or "a massive success". Everyone is obsessed with Baby Yoda like the show is called "The Baby Yoda", not "The Mandalorian". My twitter news feed is filled with Baby Yoda gif and people's cracked theories about Baby Yoda. Baby Yoda literally upstages every other character, even the Mandalorian themselves.

Man, I was pretty hype seeing those super battle droids from the clone wars. That period is SW history is one of my favorites, the battle the Mandalorian apparently loses his parents may even be from the siege of mandalore.

Chapter 4 - Interesting reveals
- Spoiler:
- He does remove is helmet for pragmatics. In front of others is different, although I suspect The Child is an exception.
I do wonder if he is actually Mandalorian, OR the pacifists - i.e. Sabine's father, and Satine used another terminology - and only the warriors consider themselves Mandalorians - because he mentioned that when he was a child, after his parents were killed, the Mandalorians took him in.
Also, I wonder if the This Is The Way group is extreme in some forms - i.e. obviously Bo-Katan, etc took off their helmets.
I love that The Child has caused him to become so chatty. OMG, I think he talked more in this episode than the 3 previous ones combined. And The Mandalorian so fell in love at first sight. He so wanted to take off his helmet, and marry right then. haha So adorable, and so sad that it's not possible yet

- Spoiler:
- Ha! I bet he waits to take off his helmet until the Child is sleeping or something. (I think he will take it off for the Child for a significant moment/reason, like with Ben and Rey.) Though I haven't figured out why he stood in front of the open window that looks out on the public square to take off his helmet to eat!! I guess symbolism of hope for a "normal life" or something.
Right, whatever he was, he was not originally a mainstream Mando because of the way he says "The Mandalorians took me in." What I can't figure out is whether this "the Way" group is really the last of the Mandos after "the Great Purge" and "the Way" is the way they remember their culture, or whether this group is a splinter group from the other survivors that has doubled down and gone back to the ancient ways of the Mandos or something. Because "the Way" tribe are definitely not what we saw in either Clone Wars or Rebels.
I know! I love Chatty MandoTM. Or maybe it's Lovestruck MandoTM? (Either way I'm getting the action figure for Christmas. ) He is so freaking polite and adorable and soft. When he's not being a tough bad***, of course. I actually love that he's such a team player.
I absolutely cannot wait for more Adventures with ManDADlorian. That initial sequence with Babyoda had me howling with laughter even though those were the oldest new-parent gags in the book.
I loved all the Western tropes. So many Western tropes. But it's the way they're used that are so awesome! I thought the village was very Willow if you've ever seen that--an excellent primer for the ST too! The daughter of Ron Howard, who directed Willow, directed this episode.

I love your insight with this show, along with Resistance!!!!
The difference in time between Rebels and the timeframe of this show is only about 10 years, correct?
Therefore,
- Spoiler:
- I cannot imagine the 'mainstream' Mandalorian culture changing that quickly! Moreover, the theory is his tragic youthful recollections are from the Siege of Mandalore, which is TCW - ~20 yrs prior - soon to be seen in animation correct- TCW returns?, so This is the Way must have been some underground religious type sect in Mandalore, ??
Maybe his removal of the helmet to eat, and look outside the window was his pushing fate? haha I think he decided, if Omera looked up just then, that was his new way. ??
I wonder if the next half of the first season is a journey/task to find a way to remove the ability to FOB track from The Child. The episode to indicate that is a continuous threat. A mixture of medical and spiritual is the cleansing answer???

Re: The Mandalorian, Disney+
Does the directing just get better in every episode?
- Spoiler:
- Of course they had him take off his helmet, only to not show the audience. And then have another almost-taking off moment. We're getting close, I can feel it! For the people who wanted more female characters, we sure got them this time. Also, I don't think I've ever seen so many children in all of SW combined as there were in this one episode.

I loved how the first three-episode arc was set in barren wastelands...and then when the Mando lets a little softness and love in his heart...

I'm getting goose bumps thinking that TPTB might possibly tie the new TCW and this together by giving us the events that shaped the Mando's background...
I'd love to see some Mandos we already know! How cool would that be?

I lovedd this episode. Thought the first three were dragging but this one was way more interesting.
Baby Yoda game was tenfold!!! I was absolutely screaming from the cuteness, I loved the beginning with the switch XD Also at the end of the standoff, that was gold. I also love how much more mando talks because of him.

If there is not a connection between new TCW and The Mandalorian's formative years, I'll still be happy, yet I admit, the potential is exciting!
- Spoiler:
- Moreover, if it turns out he is technically not a Mandalorian, that is also storytelling satisfying/I'm happy because it indicates how Mandalorians are about connections and culture, versus blood/being from the same planet.
Regardless, the This is the Way group definitely has different rules than other Mandalorians we have seen! lol
@rey09 I agree about the tension!
In fact,

So Cara Dune mentioned that
- Spoiler:
- she "mopped up" on Endor, and that later she had escort duty with political dignitaries, etc., in the New Republic. I wonder if she knows Han, Leia, Luke, or any of our OT characters? I would guess she's roughly Han's age at this time (38ish).
What is she running from since she has taken "early retirement" and thought the Mando was a bounty hunter coming for her?
Someone on the internets pointed out that the mark on her face is not a mole but a tattoo of the Rebel symbol! Also, at a panel she talked about how the costumers made her feel feminine in her armor. I really loved it--she looked comfortable but so tough.

She said the entire set is so supportive, everyone is loving, and it's positive. So that has me Squee!
As for her character,
- Spoiler:
- If she escorted political dignitaries, I am quite certain she knows of Han and Leia, and perhaps she did see baby Ben?
As for the bounty on her due to early retirement, if they don't know the entire story, I can see Leia ordering it. If she's aware of it, then, someone who isn't exactly ethical, did. As we know from Rogue One, there can be jerks working for the good guys. I had the impression Mon Mothma truly wanted to - at most - interrogate Galen Erso. However, we saw that one of her underlings ordered him assassinated. So, I can see the same thing happening here.
PS It's a tattoo! Gina mentioned the toys have it!

Well, it's also possible that
- Spoiler:
- former Imperials could be after Cara for revenge. Wouldn't it be interesting if it was the Client? Or if in evading/fighting them, we come across the nascent FO? We are supposed to see some of its origin story in this series...
Re: the New Republic...I don't know if you read any of the Aftermath books, but there is definitely precedent there for some shady folks in the New Republic, not just with former Rebels but some planets who have joined the New Republic but have different and less peaceful ideas or at least less idealistic ideas of governing.

I love this show so much. There's just something so vulnerable about the Mando, which is all the more powerful since he's such a bad***. Then throw in Good Dad to Abandoned Toddler vibes and he's just irresistible.

I did, but I didn't! I want him to be happy and known but I am also just fine with stretching out the mystique for a bit longer.

Very Important Poll:
A. Caralorian?
B. Mandalomera?
C. Another ship?
D. None of the above, this is the American Monomyth
E. What? I'm just here for The Child
(All in good fun! )
