I wish the haters would watch the Balance of the Force doc. on TLJ blu ray - Rian explains in detail just exactly why Luke isolated himself and decided to let the Jedi ordrr die out. Ironically Kylo was right when he sais it was 'time to let the old ways die', he just went about it in the wrong way. I wonder if Rey will realise this.

Some random thoughts...
I'm really happy to see so much of this announcement is focused on Carrie Fisher - I think this bodes really well for the care they are taking with this situation. This is the first time I've seen a recast ruled out. Though I still think 'recast' doesn't exclude hiring another actor for a flashback, a shot from behind, or a voice that is part of Leia's performance. I'm up for anything as I trust they will do the right thing by Carrie.
Great to hear Carrie's family is involved in the process. I choose to believe Billie is representing their whole family, and I wish them well. Honouring Carrie's legacy and role as Leia sounds fantastic. Unseen footage for TFA huh. I can't wait to see what they end up doing!!! I wonder if we'll get to see that footage of Leia handing over the light saber - except this time it's to Ben or something. whatever it is, it's gonna be good. I can't wait.

Most of the actors returning are not a big shock.. but I'm sure glad to see Mark listed so we don't have to put up with all the endless speculation of will we see him or not. lol.  Really great to see confirmation Maz is going to be back. i don't know Naomi Ackie, @vaderito - thanks for sharing the image. She looks lovely! I confess my first thought is: Lando's daughter!!! lol. But hey that doesn't mean I won't accept she is a nobody ha! My second thought was: Finn's sister!!! I would love to see Finn reunited with his family. But.. she doesn't have to be related to anyone.. star wars is a big galaxy.. but the mind does look for connections!

Speaking of connections. The casting of Richard E Grant is awesome. I see there is lots of speculation about who he will be.. and the vibe of FO or imperial is doing the rounds. I'm currently reading the second Aftermath book  - and I'm loving this trilogy. So for me - when I heard of Grant's casting my immediate thought was: Sinjir!!!!!!! He could be playing Sinjir!!! He has that fabulous campy dramatic snooty quality and would be able to pull off former imperial loyalty officer brilliantly. I love Sinjir because his dialogue is fantastic, fun- and never dull! He is a great foil for the resistance and all their somewhat sickening earnestness. haaaaa.. Sinjir has that funny, charming but cynical edge which is really entertaining!
I'm thinking Sinjir would be about Leia's age and it's possible.. do you think? It looks like Temmin (Snap) Wesley is back in IX based on the Poe comics.. I really want to see Mr Bones! ....Greg Grunberg hasn't been listed here in this announcement.. but then - the announcement is not an exhaustive list and names will be added along the way (like Keri Russell).

With all the details and JJ being very upfront with the casting announcement (Leia and Luke returning), and now this, it definitely signals a change in strategy. Finally some transparency. I think they know that this is a good way to build up the hype again (after TLJ killed it off for some people). This is a good thread on this:

A month or two ago, this leak dropped on reddit claiming that the concept art showed Finn with new hair. Yesterday, we got a blurry peak at the hair but now we have a better look:



and it does look similar to leak description. I've learned since posting this that the leaker uses inappropriate word to describe the hair, so I removed it from my OP. I apologize but I really didn't know.

The second leak is worth revisiting because of MSW's Jordan location scoop, and possibility that the characters don't meet DJ but Lando. It's possible that DJ is just a fake out.

Oh, this is one of my favourite leaks, I’d be totally fine if this exact information turned out to be true! The only thing bothering me is Rose manning the gunman position in the Falcon - I wanna Rey do it while Kylo’s piloting the ship or Rey be the copilot to Kylo’s piloting!

He only has Resistance leaks it seems. I'm hungry for some Kylo leaks.

He also said DJ is back, but Benicio hasn't been announced.

I would be happy with those leaks too if true . DJ could still be in 9 just not announced with main cast as they might want to keep it secret ( like yoda in last Jedi ). When they announced the cast they were careful with the wording - they said “ includes” which suggests to me there’s more they aren’t revealing .

Daisy, Adam, oscar and Dom are at the charity event London for Guatemala atm. That lends credence to the leak that John and Kelly are filming since they are not attending the event. You can see images from the event here:

Star Wars: Episode IX Exclusive – Todd Fisher Reveals J. J. Abrams Will Also Incorporate Unused Footage of Carrie Fisher from ‘The Last Jedi’ to Bring Back Leia

Star Wars: Episode IX co-writer and director J. J. Abrams recently revealed that Carrie Fisher will be returning in the final installment of the saga through unused footage from The Force Awakens.

We have now learned some additional information about Carrie’s return. In an appearance this week on The Resistance Broadcast, ABC News’ Clayton Sandell told us that Carrie’s brother, Todd Fisher, revealed to him that in addition to unused footage from Abrams’ The Force Awakens, they will also utilize unused footage from Rian Johnson’s The Last Jedi. Fisher went on to say that big surprises are coming from this footage, and this performance.

Sandell broke this news to us an hour after speaking directly to Todd Fisher, the brother of the late Carrie Fisher. Sandell on his discussion with Fisher:

“I talked to Todd Fisher today about all of this and he has been talking with J. J. Abrams about it. I asked him, because the press release only said The Force Awakens so I asked about The Last Jedi, and they are also using unused footage from The Last Jedi. I asked him how many minutes of footage they had from it and he said ‘I can’t tell you that!'” “He (Todd Fisher) said there were big surprises coming – big surprises with this movie, this performance, and the unused footage – and said – this one is really for the fans.” “But they apparently have a number of unused minutes from both The Force Awakens and The Last Jedi.”
“Todd and the whole family are very excited and wanted it to happen.”

“Big surprises with the unused footage” is a surprise in itself, as it wipes away the idea of them simply using something to give Leia a proper send-off. Either way, any additional footage they can potentially use expands how J. J. Abrams and Chris Terrio can incorporate Fisher into the story for Star Wars: Episode IX. Abrams and Terrio began writing the script last Fall, which explains why there were no deleted scenes centered around Leia on the home video release of The Last Jedi. The plan had to have been in place since they began shaping the story for the final installment, working with Johnson in learning what footage was left on the cutting room floor that they could then pick up and use for Episode IX.

That brings us back to J. J. Abrams’ tweet announcing the start of filming for Episode IX. In addition to acknowledging it was bittersweet to start this next chapter without Carrie, Abrams expressed he was “grateful for Rian Johnson” who in addition to writing and directing the middle installment (which could just as easily explain that gratitude from Abrams who executive produced and publicly embraced The Last Jedi), would have clearly had a hand in providing unused footage from his chapter in the saga.

In speaking with Inverse last December, Rian Johnson spoke on scenes of Carrie’s that didn’t make the final cut of The Last Jedi, as well as discussions he had with J. J. Abrams about the potential for using that material in Episode IX:

“There weren’t any big scenes. There were smaller scenes that, structurally just ended up falling away. Same as there were with any of the other characters. But there wasn’t any big and significant.”
“I had a conversation with J.J. [Abrams], [and said] you can take a look at anything we didn’t use. But I don’t think there’s anything there. The truth is, there isn’t a ton of her that we shot that we didn’t use in this movie.”

Based on these Rian Johnson quotes from last December it doesn’t sound like there is much footage from The Last Jedi to use (unless Johnson was cleverly being coy considering this decision to use footage of Carrie was potentially decided upon months before that interview), they will obviously use anything and everything they possibly can to see how it can fit the story they want to tell. Up until now we knew J. J. had some scenes he filmed from The Force Awakens to utilize, but now knowing there is material from The Last Jedi also being used, it sounds like a truly communal effort is being put forth to bring Carrie Fisher’s Leia back on the big screen in the most optimal and respectful way possible, to nobody’s surprise.

Yes, I also saw Courtney's tweets from the other week. People do seem to feel free to talk about this now that the news is out.

And I think this is always why I feel annoyed at Rian's and the cast's "the story could go anywhere!" comments, because no it can't, and I think a number of them know that. But they need to keep the mystery box intact, even if it's at the expense of audience investment.

Just over the past few days LF seems to be opening up a little more now that IX is in production. I'm pretty confident Rian has read the script.

Logical assumption is that Adam and Carrie (in red circles) were filming only the Force Bond but it's possible that they filmed more just in case or that there's some footage that could be used for IX for the scene between them. LF knows that Ben and Leia scene is a must-have. So...

There were rumors from some random redditors, if I recall, that Carrie's reshoots for TLJ had possibly involved some "contingency plan" filming, in case she couldn't make her commitments for IX.

I wonder if these rumors were true now, and if the unused footage could include some "insurance scenes" that were shot in case Carrie's health issues interfered with her ability to participate in IX.

I always believed in insurance scene and that the fact that they didn't alter Luke's fate when they still had time speaks in favor of it. They'll never admit it, though.

I believe the same @vaderito - that scene from behind the scenes (was it? )?That looked like leia and Kylo were together in a scene ( one you’ve posted above @vaderito) and there was another one too from behind the scenes that looked like rey was delivering bad news to leia and that there was a third person in the scene ? There were also rumours at one point about Carrie being sighted in Ireland too? The final cut of TLJ isn’t the whole film because even the shareholders early 2018 mentioned scenes with rey that didn’t make final version and some of the trailer scenes didn’t either .Moreover remember how every director has been filming something for the next film? Yeah, remember the tweets from that shareholder meeting where they revealed early footage from TLJ and there was that one tweet about how Rey was in a cave or something and she had orbs of light floating around her? They definitely film stuff that doesn't make the deleted scenes or the final script. Not to get too morbid or cynical, but If I were LFL I definitely would have made sure Carrie filmed contingency/insurance scenes. There were rumours about Carrie's ailing health for quite a while (that's how we knew she was going to be in a coma in the film), so they may have had time to take that into consideration. Adam said the last time he saw her was on set being Princess Leia, but that could have just been for filming the scene they had (on their ships).

Orbs of light were not orbs but burning embers. She was not in the cave. The leak said she was under duress surrounded by orbs of light, no mention of location. That's when she was straining to get the saber from Ben. Those snippets fly fast so the person saw some light around her and described it as orbs but it was embers.

Aug 4 and 5 (weekend) - Adam and Daisy?
Source: same Tumbler leak claimed that Adam was shooting on weekend not in studio; a tweet about an intel that Adam and Daisy were on the set together

Aug 7 - BB8 (and likely Resistance characters such as Poe?, etc)
Source: Brian Herring (BB8 puppeteer tweet); Oscar had to prepare for the charity on Aug 2 and was in Copenhagen on weekend (his wife's IG on Aug 5) so it's possible that today is his first day of shoot too. It's Poe's droid after all.

@vaderito Maybe BB8 is with Finn and Rose? Or Rey and Kylo?! Now there's an interesting thought.
