That's great news! Loved Matt Smith as the 11th doctor, he may be my favorite of all, he has such unique presence, very different in a wonderfully refreshing way. His youthful energy draws you in. Really happy about Dominic Monaghan as well. The prospect of seeing either or both as KOR sounds really cool! Awesome casting choices, well done JJ!

I have no idea whether the KOR will feature at all, but I hope that they do because they were teased in VII, I thought it was an interesting concept, and it would be cool to finally see them alongside their leader. I'd have preferred them to the guards, although the latter worked well as fodder for the Rey/Kylo duo to fight and show their power.

Seriously. It seems like there's casting or rumors for SW or Batman/Joker movies every other day. I still contend that TLJ offed 4 characters, including the former lead of the OT as well as the main baddie, Leia's presence I think will be limited, and apparently DJ isn't here anymore either (though I wouldn't discount a cameo). The ranks are kind of depleted.

Oh, and don't forget Billie Lourd is still here too!

And the fact that they've been filming for almost a month might indicate these roles aren't very big. Wasn't Kelly announced before TFA even came out?

Just because they have been reported now doesn't mean they were cast now though. He could have joined the production months ago.

Dominic...Matt...they could easily pull a Simon Peg or a Daniel Craig.

Jason updated more images from Black Park and some shots of the grass look very similar or even identical to SUN's leaks with Finn, Poe and the Resistance. I'd say the Resistance is probably hiding in the woods behind the meadow where leaked images take place. I don't know how they ended up in the open but some images suggest characters are running from something (they look behind, run, etc). I know we are not to link SUN and not sure about MSW so look for leaks on Reddit:

I was told the leaked photos from last weekend were not from Black Park, but it doesn’t mean they’re not from Pinewood.

Since leaks were filmed in Buckinghamshire where Black Park is also located, it's a similar looking area so possibly same planet?

Ugh, hope Matt Smith's role is minor. Sorry, but not a fan of his mugging and Panto level acting on Doctor Who. He's like every actor in the Wild West Shows my parents took to me to as a child growing up. Also just shuddering at how much sh*ttier the inane YouTube theory videos are going to be now that that the nu Who fanboys are going to be paying attention to IX.

This is true. Though why they wouldn't be among the initially announced cast last month is beyond me.

And I still think the big cast could be manageable if there are only two main, interconnecting plotlines, not three separate ones.

Seriously- IF JJ will use the KoR (and I still have doubts about that) they won't all get a separate personality and story in IX.
I can't imagine him casting these good, well known actors for that...they will most likely be played by stuntmen or unknown actors imo.

I think the ever-growing cast is causing eyebrows to raise across much of SW fandom. But TLJ was equally packed and still had time for Reylo. I think much of the cast will be involved in fewer plot threads, so it won't feel too spread out. And some of these roles are probably Phasma-sized.

This is why the superfans were always crap at predicting the story. They can’t conceive that general audiences don’t love the minutiae the same way they do and lack the creativity to do anything other than regurgitate plot elements from previous Star Wars films, cartoons, novels and comics.

There’s a reason I confined my Knights of Ren spec to the “Crack” thread. The entirety of the Knights of Ren as far as general audiences care was one line in TFA that most general audience members don’t even remember because it was three years ago. IX might dig it out because they need a darksider for Ben and Rey to fight, but an apparition of the masked Kylo Ren or Vader himself are just as, if not more, likely because general audiences will recognize them.

That said, the bigger names and news of them coming out later does incline me to believe they’re more likely to be part of Rey/Kylo’s A-plot whether they’re Force sensitive or not. This is because the Resistance B-plot was always going to be lame, there’s already an over abundance of characters there (Poe, Finn, Rose, Chewie, BB-8, Connix, Wex, Naomi’s character and, if the rumors are on target, Lando and Maz as well) and no amount of additional casting is going to make the Resistance plot less lame.

Meanwhile, the presumed A-plot only has Kylo, Rey and Luke (whose role will likely be small) confirmed, with Hux presumably playing a role (though whether it’s his main plot or if his main plot will be as antagonist for the B-plot instead is an open question). Unless they’re literally only going to be interacting with each other, the A-plot is going to need some additional characters for them to interact with.

Unless Lando was a "late add" where, JJ squeezed him in at the last minute because it looked like Billy Dee Williams' health would allow it, I think that leak has to be wrong about Lando.

Narratively, and with what was set up in the books, Lando makes a lot more sense playing some small but pivotal role in Ben's plot. (There's the actual Chekov's gun of the blaster that Lando was going to leave for Ben in the Aftermath books.)
