Episode IX: Spoilers and Rumors

Like I could care less about Poe and the whole resistance plot.. it has been the worst...

However, I do love Oscar.. and unfortunately because the botched arc for Finn the demos for AA's showing up for TLJ had dropped from 12% to 7 percent or something I don't remember it exactly.. however Latino/Hispanic attendence is up for TLJ to 17 or 18%and many attribute that to Oscar..

I posted the article because 1. it affirms that there are things in TROS that CT contributed to... also... that Palpy's return was JJ's idea... I find both of those things MOST INTERESTING

I find the comment about Palpatine's return being JJ's idea rather strange, I distinctly remember KK saying at Celebration that they had always wanted to use him in IX. Normally I trust creatives more than executives, but here, the creative in question is sort of inept and clearly didn't want to go with the program, and it's KK who's been shepherding this thing the entire way through, so I don't know.

The "hi I'm Poe" thing being CT's addition is so rich. I thought at the time, in a more boring standard blockbuster, someone would pair them off. JJ cut out a similar scene in TFA. Rian must have actually thought it was a good idea, since he's generally not that receptive to many outside ideas, he said something very similar to Colin about wanting the two major characters to meet (he did not say beloved). Remember when Colbert was shipping all the different characters at Celebration, John made a joke about a love pentagon. Might have happened with CT. I love whenever we hear anything about his involvement with SW, it's endless entertainment.

I’ve been wondering about the same thing. Perhaps Palpatine’s comeback was always on the table, but it was vague - alive? Force ghost? his spirit possessing another character? connected to an artifact? - and bringing him back alive (or so it seems) was indeed Abrams idea. Or he was back in Kennedy’s outline but Trevorrow didn’t want to comply?

I would surmise that Palpy's return is George's original plan for the ST

Notice that Colin said that he "didn't consider" to include Palpatine, not that he didn't know that one could possibly bring Palpatine back. No way he wasn't aware that there was a idea as there are ties to this in concept art for TFA. And this is just concept art presented to public, no doubt that there are tons additional ideas which are hidden.

Also, JJ specified that the most surprising RJ's idea was actually Luke's arc and not that RJ decided to kill "main villain". It doesn't even look like Snoke was designed as the main villain, JJ was changing Snoke aesthetics to the last minute before TFA premiere. Even Snoke's limited presence in concept art indicates that there wasn't solid foundation for developing him as the main villain figure.

In TFA we see Snoke only as hologram. Perhaps JJ had a broad idea that it will be revealed that Palpatine is behind Snoke to the point that he is creating a hologram every time when he gives orders or manipulates Kylo. We were questioning why Snoke knows absolutely all details about last encounter between Vader, Palpy and Luke. The answer could be that JJ planned Snoke to be literally Palpatine. Then RJ decided that he wants Kylo to kill Snoke so it required Snoke to be in flesh. Planes changed..

For a fanboy Trevorrow doesn't know what the f**k he's talking about, George Lucas said back during the OT that his original plan was that the Emperor would stay out of site until the 9th chapter (which coincidentally would center around a young FS woman as the protagonist) and then emerge as the final antagonist. He only turned up in RotJ because they literally thought that was The End of the Saga.

Otherwise, I've never got the amount of complaining you see among fans about JJ (or any complaining about superfluous sh*t like marketing/interviews) because besides being the person who created these characters/their relationship, look at what Trevorrow was likely going to do with the story, starting with "Hi I'm Poe." The fact that we're getting this movie done by JJ is a goddamn miracle as far as I'm concerned and any/all complaining seems like petty entitled nonsense.

It's nice to finally see Leia, but I didn't know that Poe was that big of a character to have his own cover (I would imagine that he would be behind Leia).

@ZioRen Yes, that or the cover of the Art of book. Both are just so simple and elegant. But most final theatrical posters are collections of character heads, so SW follows suit.

from this image I see Rey and Kylo Ren (Ben Solo) united that defeat the emperor, I see battles but I also see hope.

That cover isn't just Rey finally letting somebody take her hand, she's finally accepted Ben's hand. It's very elegant in being simple and to the point of what the story is about. Also one of the squares on my BINGO card is that as with the Golden Dice, the moment when he sheds the gloves is when he throws off the parts of the past that need to die and shows his father's heart/the face of Han's son in who he is.

The cover of the novelization.. @gemini... the beautiful theory... this symbolism and metaphor is important.. so much so that the ST has been distilled to this image...

Maybe Palpatine’s return was something that was vaguely suggested at some early stages, but I doubt that it was ever a part of the concrete plan for the trilogy, because otherwise they’ve done a spectacularly bad job foreshadowing his return.
