So... it looks like Rian deleted his Twitter. RIP to all the joy it brought us, but good on him. Lots of big directors have no social media at all.

Well, if it's because of the toxic fans I don't blame him.

Credit to Sleemo for saving/sharing this post. Even if he did delete his account, this boils down to what the fight over SW has been and what argument he's tried to make. Which TRoS and the current slate of books/shows appear to be headed in the opposite direction

This is no longer a 'black and white' world - if it ever was. This should have been the story of the Force coming together to create balance.

Instead it was a boring rehash of all the other films.

That's what I was saying about the meta themes of the ST being about how to take account and best use of the past (be it personal or meta/pop culture). Rian's argument was that in order to stay vital and move forward, things have to evolve. Which the response with TRoS was JJ's snippy "you can't tell people these things don't matter" quote in the NYT interview before it came out.

Pffff, JJ´s own crappy movie is the reason that the whole saga doesn´t matter anoymore, well done.
I´m so fed up with his permanent blaming of Rian Johnson for his own inability to make a decent movie.

Welp I'm finding it pretty ironic that in whatever attempt JJ & Disney studio heads thought they were doing to rehab the brand away from the "bad" associations like the PT and the "Not my Luke" /"She can't be a Jedi without completing at least 400 hours of supervised Jedi training"/"the Jedi can't end because I have 20 years of dumb Internet user names and a personalized license plate about how I think I'm a Jedi" arguments, instead brought it full circle back to the state of irrelevance it was before TFA came out. He's going down in film history as having helped revive/rehab and then totally trashed the same film franchise. I suspect that the quote from Rian is something he and Kiri Hart likely argued to the suits and when the suits came down on the side of nothing is going to change because of business strategy for the theme park and streaming service launches, that's what led to their next project being Knives Out instead.

It's Lando. They're making a Lando series with Donald Glover. Doesn't surprise me at all.

Glover was great in "Solo". But only a handful of peolple wanted to see this movie, sadly.
More pampering of OT dudebros, as a reward for this, it seems.

I also think they are being petty regarding Ben Solo....they must have known by saying that 'a popular character from the ST is returning' would of course lead Ben fans into believing that it was him. Most of us here have wisend up since JJ's 'hopeful and satisfying' comments, but it's both childish and spiteful of them.

I honestly think JJ actually hates Kylo/Ben fans..... he's peeved that the audience preferred him to his little darling Rey. But if the antagonist proves more popular than the protagonist, you have to write a better protagonist.
Instead Abrams shafted every other character in the film so Rey got all the screen time, had the glory of destroying grandad herself, and claimed the Rise of Skywalker title. The final insult is how Ben served just to resurrect her. - his destiny was to give Rey the Goddess of Perfection and Worthiness back to her adoring galaxy.
And instead of making people love her, it's had precisely the opposite effect.
I am genuinely stunned how many moviegoers dislike her character now.

Was the Lando thing real? There have been so many "they're making a Yoda/Jabba the Hutt/Boba Fett movie" kind of rumors for ages, I really don't believe it until some official source announces it. I wouldn't be surprised if it's real, since people liked Glover's Lando, and Disney is greenlighting D+ projects left and right, because every streaming service needs a maximum amount of original content to survive.

Still not sure if JJ actively hates any fans, or he's just remarkably unaware and tone deaf, which is the impression I got from some of his comments. Some of these old timey fans live in their own little bubble where they believe everyone thinks like them.

I've no doubt that LFL and Disney have pitched the idea to Donald Glover. But no matter how much love he has for Star Wars and Lando, it's very much a situation where they need him more than he needs them. And he's at a point in his career where he has creative control. So if they wanted to have him do a show, it'd be on his terms and he's a busy guy. What is incredibly dumb is how they had both him and Phoebe Waller-Bridge working for them and let them both go on their ways to create/launch/act in multiple wildly popular projects for other studios.

If we're using this as a general updates thread, the trio of SW movies on the schedule, plus Avatar sequels and other stuff, got pushed back a year, to no one's surprise. I agree I think J.J. is in his own little world.
Disney as a company though? Teasing viewers with possibilities and then not following through is their  modus operandi. Then they throw it back on fans for being unreasonable for wishing to have their entertainment actually meet their expectations, which Disney created in the first place-gaslighting!
Teasing viewers in ways that are at times cruel is a key part of their marketing approach. This is the company who teased (Aka mislead) viewers about  Finn the Jedi in TFA. Giving Reylos a kiss then a minute later literally having Ben die.. and then declaring it’s satisfying, or lol just gratitude.. I think it’s cruelty.  
Ultimately, I don’t trust them and so I don’t emotionally invest in their products anymore.

The only person I trust who is around SW is RJ. And I’m doubting whether he will actually see through his movies, or just move on to other less stressful and more rewarding projects. I can’t say I would blame him.

Is that the RJ series of movies? Or was RJ doing a trilogy? I forget.

I think Disney are going to place the blame on TROS poor performance overall on the pandemic. they’ll release the comic adaptation etc on the quiet, get it out here and try to move on.

@DeeBee They never specified what the release dates were for. Rian was announced for a trilogy, but later they said they wanted to move away from trilogies. Taika revealed he's writing his movie now, I don't know which thing Feige is involved in, or if this is some other thing. Very shrouded in mystery, just unidentified dates.

My fantasy is RJ directing a stand alone film featuring Ben Solo's return, I think Adam wouldn't be averse to reprising Kylo/Ben if RJ was directing.
I'm sorry for Adam, I'm absolutely sure that the reason he wants nothing more to do with the franchise is because of how it ended - prior to that he said he liked playing Kylo and the fact he was willing to even play him twice on SNL proves that.
