I stumbled upon Collider Jedi Council by chance immediately after TFA - when I simply wanted to hear what other fans think.

It was 2 vs. 2. Ken and Jon Campea (who was still a member of the Council at the time) vs. Harloff & Mark Ellis (is he still there?).

The first two were way much reasonable and could provide some good and analytical insight. The other two - were only parroting about their headcanons and wishes.
@Darth_Awakened

Kristian is a very opinionated person, which is usually fine except with his love of SW, because he goes really off the rails and is completely convinced he's right. Normally he's more reasonable, but methinks he has too strong a fanboy streak in him. Mark says he isn't any good at predicting movies or seeing where they're going while they are happening, so he usually defers to Kristian. The two have their own YT channel also where they review movies, Mark is generally the more easygoing one.

Campea left Collider, he was gone by the time I saw Jedi Council. I heard Collider lost all touch with SW reality once he was gone!

But boy was the Jacen Solo/Darth Caedus plot terrible. I don't know a single person who liked it. Initially, one of my reasons for wanting Kylo to be redeemed is that I didn't want a Jacen Solo situation all over again, so ot really baffled to see people wanting him to become more evil and die in the end.
@Irina de France

Oh yes! I don't even want to remember that- it'll just give me a headache! Evil or Very Mad

I stopped reading Legends after that...some authors had invented really awesome characters and stuff- but somehow they ruined it after a while. The most interesting ones got killed- like Mara, Anakin (Solo) but the big 3 always remained invincible. It irritated me.
@Night Huntress

I never got into Legends/EU, but I remember hearing about the Jacen and Jaina storyline long before the ST, and I thought the idea of Han and Leia’s son going dark, his light side twin sister killing him, and him having a hidden kid sounded absolutely awful and nothing like SW.
@Kessel

yeah, it is as awful as it sounds Rolling Eyes

And comparing Jacen to Kylo isn't working - they are two completely different characters...I read a lot of complains "Renperor- now it's Jacen Solo all over again..." ahh- no??? scratch
@Night Huntress

The fact that Jacen died unredeemed (or even if it was redeemed - doesn’t matter) elevates Ben’s chances of survival ten fold.  The creators are doing everything they can to distance themselves from the EU.  They’re not going play out that same story again with Han and Leia’s only son, even if the names and characterizations have changed.
@IoJovi

I'm going to need you to use the microphone so the folks at the back can hear you.

I just listened to the lovely accent of Domhall Gleeson in a Sad Happy Confused podcast :Star Wars: The Last Jedi Actor Defends Film’s Divisive Humor. His interview starts at 7.00 beginning with his new Sundance film He talks about the Last Jedi at 14.30 including the beginning scene with Oscar , who read his lines off camera.

https://www.stitcher.com/podcast/panoply/happy-sad-confused/e/53036906

The General Hux actor defended the comedy in the latest Star Wars flick on the Happy Sad Confused podcast. “If you expect it to be a certain way, and it’s not that way, you’re going to be disappointed. You can’t decide not to be disappointed. If you’re disappointed, you are,” Gleeson said.

“I just – it’s my opinion that it was better to change things up than remain on the same kind of tramline sort of thing,” the actor continued. “And I thought Rian [Johnson] had tremendous respect for everything that had [come] before, but he also did his own thing. And I think for a filmmaker like him, it would be foolish not to have him do his own thing.”

“I’ll be honest, I was very surprised that [General Hux] survived. I kind of imagined myself getting blown up in a ship pretty early on. …There’s also this moment when [Kylo] Ren is on the ground, and it looks like maybe I’ll finish him. It’s like, what state would the franchise be in if Snoke and Ren are gone? And it’s just Hux going right. Can you imagine how annoyed people would’ve been?...”

About Kylo/Hux relationship...I like the idea that Hux gets abused...Rian talked about he's like a kicked dog, when that dog eventually bites, he's going to bite hard, when he snaps he's going to do something nasty...well I'm hoping thats the way it goes, but we don't know, maybe they'll just make up

It's a really fun interview - I like Domhall.

I recommend Wayward Jedi on YT. He has excellent knowledge of mythology and Monomyth so one learns something new along the way.

P.S. I'm sick of EU goggles. Ben Solo is the last Skywalker. There's no Jaina Solo and Ben Skywalker to continue the lineage if one of SkySolo kids falls literally and figuratively. They could afford to lose Anakin Jr and Jacen. However, Ben Solo being the last and only is completely different animal. How hard is it to understand? Apparently very hard for EUlogists.

Thanks PalmettoBlue, I'll check them all out! Including yours Smile
I have listened to one Knights of Rant podcast episode and it didn't do it for me. They kept interrupting each other.. they would be right in the middle of making a fantastic point and bam- the other would interject and the thought got lost and they didn't go back to it.
Maybe they had both been drinking too much coffee before that episode and I should give them another go Smile

Love SW connection.. wish it came in audio only!

[edited to add - I just realised the Knights of Rant subtitle is 'Who talks first' - rofl. I should have known there may be lots of interrupting! Wink

@vaderito - thanks I'll give wayward Jedi a go too!

@Let The Past Die - thanks I'll give Jedi Jade a go too..

Glad to hear of great podcasts out there...

Den of Nerds on YT seems okay too so far...

edited to add: Nope. Den of Nerds I will skip.
Just my own opinion..
In yesterday's video he says there will be reylo babies and a week previously he was saying Kylo is going to be a twisted big bad ruler who rey will kill in the end.
seems he may be going for reylo vids to get his views up or create controversy.. whatever, but I don't have confidence he is genuine... so I don't feel right recommending him!

I like listen to Jedi Jade, too- she has a calm voice and a good talking pace. Approves

But I have to say the SW- Connection podcasts are still unbeaten. I love them especially Lee and Denise talking...they're so much fun.
I hope they make a new one soon! Cool

Yes! Wayward Jedi is one of my favs! Highly recommend watching him! He gives really great insight and analysis on the SW it's mythology. He has some interesting theories and always makes me think...not unlike what a lot of you on this forum do for me too! Very Happy

+1 on the "EU goggles" I couldn't agree more.

Hi All!
I just wanted to share that I watched the most recent Jedi council episode the other day and - Oh my goodness. Games are afoot! Haaaaa..
There was one point where Ken disagreed with Kristian flat out, and said he didn't want to get into a debate. Ken keeps growing in my estimation. He is open minded but has his own opinion without feeling the need to convince others to agree with him.
I wish he would be given more space to share. Same with Terri, she seems to have embraced her love for TLJ... but gets cut short by guess who.... Kristian Harloff. He seems to bookend every topic of conversation with his thoughts. When to me he is the least interesting to listen to. Oh dear. However - I can see signs he is starting to see his emotional initial rejection of TLJ may have been a mistake and he is starting to say things that sound less adamant. It's a start. I wish him all the best.
I appreciate Collider's coverage of the wider SW universe.. so before I forget or get busy, lol, I just wanted to share KH seems to be starting to turn a corner (and hoorah we might get more interesting discussion) and hoorah Ken is being pretty direct in his love for TLJ and sharing his own views now - IMHO much more than he previously was. Good for him.

@DeeBee

I only watched Jedi Council for a couple of months, but I seem to recall he was only of a middling opinion of TLJ when he saw it for the first time at the premiere. Then he saw it at a screening later and loved it. On the last episode I saw before I stopped watching he was in between, where he very much liked but didn't love it. I wonder if he will let go of the weird Kylo's darkside deteriorating face delusions. I heard he was gunning for Reywalker until he read Bloodline, then he moved on. When marketing starts up for IX, he'll probably complain if it looks like there's Rendemption/Reylo in the works, but he'll probably get over it eventually. Harloff is certainly a typical fanboy at times, but he isn't of the toxic kind that complains about everything.

If it seems he's warming up to something he didn't like before, I recall he, along with a good chunk of the audience, didn't love the casino stuff, he said it was like Harry Potter in SW. It's been pointed out in a few places, including here, that people are way too harsh on the Canto Bight sequence. No, it isn't the best or most compelling thing in the film, and it's rather on the nose with its messages, but it's not nearly as terrible or long as it's often claimed to be.

And yes, Ken is great in general. He was on an episode of Movie Fights on Screen Junkies the other week defending that there should be more SW movies. I don't think he's afraid of Kristian or how opinionated he is, they've known each other for way too long. Smile

Yeah I thought it was pretty funny when Ken pointed out how Kristian had reacted to something initially by throwing his water bottle and kicking something.. only to come around in the end haaaaaaaa... the body language on KH when Ken said this was pretty interesting lol. I think it is challenging for anyone to admit to themselves if they've been wrong - and it is even harder to do this with an audience. Being in the public eye this is what KH has to deal with..
There is a well known Sun Tzu quote that says "Build your opponent a golden bridge to retreat across." - I hope all SW fans who want backtrack on previously held views or to come around to a new way of thinking are built a golden bridge for them to cross over and join us in loving TLJ and loving Reylo! Smile we may as well make it as pleasant and as easy as possible so we can get back to the fun..

Movie Fights has been running weekly for 3+ years, so don't get too lost trying to find it! This was the first round in a recent episode. I also recommend another episode from January, the first round was Jenny Nicholson defending TLJ and doing a great job at it. She just fully put her "Kylo and Rey bring balance to the light and dark sides of the force" ideas right out into the open, even if she's not a Reylo.

@DeeBee

I like to listen to them as well, but sometimes it is hard to listen to when your trying to figure out where Kristian is going with some of his ideas. For someone who is so immersed in Star Wars, it is hard to figure out where it gets some of his stuff. Anyway, I find a lot of these podcasters' have their own ideas that they are afraid to share because of backlash of fans. You can tell by some of the things they say, they kind of talk in a roundabout way.

Hey Film Nerds, Rian's on this week's podcast for Filmstruck, which is the streaming service for the Criterion Collection/Turner Classic Movies.

Last Jedi director Rian Johnson talks classic movies with host Alicia Malone, translates some robot speak, and remembers what it was like asking his grandparents to fund his first film. He also imagines what would happen if he could tell his 5-year-old self: "you'll be directing a Star Wars film!"

Just listened to Scavenger Hoards latest podcast about TLJ novel and Forces of Destiny. These girls are great! They remind me of SW Connection a lot as they're very well read around literacy tropes etc , they're big Reylo shippers and Jason retweeted them too!

Gah, I love Alicia. I've learned about her via YT. In the past year or so she's moved away from having to cover a bunch of mainstream blockbuster stuff she doesn't care about to doing all the Filmstruck/TCM indie/classic/arthouse/cult/foreign films she loves. It's nice to follow at least one internet movie person who isn't obsessed with the SW and MCU/DC stuff.

I didn't realise Alicia Malone was Australian haha. She met RJ at a party that had Christopher Nolan, JJ Abrams and Ava DuVernay among others Shocked. Its interesting that he came from a family that weren't huge film buffs although he said his dad is a huge Scorsese fan. He really was only able to start watching older classic films in college and he reiterated that he wants to write a few, smaller non-SW things in between/before? his new trilogy. He also binge watches movies on Filmstruck every night with his girlfriend, Karina Longworth. In her wiki it says she's written a book on George Lucas? SW power couple haha.

@californiagirl I started following a lot of women film critics on Twitter and she came up as being associated with Criterion/TCM. And I'm out of it, like I had zero interest in MCU/DC as a comic book fan when I was younger (I was more into the indie/graphic novel stuff), even more as a film fan. So I'm glad there's still a niche for the stuff I'd rather talk about, which is absolutely Filmstruck/TCM indie/classic/arthouse/cult/foreign films.

@Kylo Rey Yeah she's living the dream actually getting to write and cover film in an intelligent way, not vapid entertainment industry coverage.
