As for DJ, could not care less. I was disappointed the minute I saw the VF pic and they said he was a slicer. It was like "oh, that type of guy" which is so not original. But who knows, they might prove me wrong and I'll love the character. Right now, it's just like "whatever'.

Not sure it's a good sign when you end up looking forward to the creatures rather than the characters as is my case right now. Thank Universe for the porgs. I hope they bite someone in the a** because right now TLJ sounds boring as hell. Or maybe I am just in a bad mood.

That's been my problem, too! I remember when Rian first started talking about how the movie focuses on the three heroes (Rey, Finn and Poe) and how he really wanted to learn more about them and the most difficult thing they could go though, I was a little apprehensive about it but it was really early on so I tried not to put much stalk into it. Now though, it feels like the good guys are more fighting their inner demons and that the bad guys are just accessories than actual playing pieces. I know they don't want to say much about it because a lot of the drama comes from the villains but how many times can I hear about Luke and Rey having conflict before I rip my hair out?

Something that reassures me about this was the Snoke article - Rian had this quote about Serkis' performance:

“I’d be sitting at the monitor just with my eyes as big as dinner plates,” Johnson says. “It’s one of those performances where after every line, I’d look over at whoever’s standing next to me with an expression on my face like, ‘Oh, my God, we just got that.”

That makes me just want to imagine how dramatic Snoke's scenes will be - I bet he's got some meaty dialogue, at the very least, if it gave Serkis that much material to work off of in his performance.

This doesn't spoil a dang thing, yet it's SOOOO incredibly better than the drivel these news articles are giving us...

Let's not pretend like SW fans on other corners of the net take character appearances into account when debating if they're related or not. Looking at you, Rey/Kylo/Finn/Lt. Connix are the Skywalker four video.

Between Entertainment Weekly and Vanity Fair, the articles are about as exciting as reading the monthly drought watering press releases my town's water district puts out. What's massively disappointing is that on the heels of Forces of Destiny's release, and finally having more female characters front and center as heroines who save the day, what're the headlines? "[Female Character]'s Challenge is to work with [Male Character]" or [Male Character] is unsure of his path, can [Female Character]'s influence steer him in the right direction?"  I like Breznican's writing, at least on Twitter, but this is like with having David Kamp writing for Vanity Fair, time for the fanboys to step aside and let younger, female entertainment journalists (who are all over Twitter and pretty bad a**) take a crack at these stories. Seriously, between these two major entertainment industry publications, there is ZERO stories about Laura Dern and Gwendolyn Christie's roles and how they're both having an amazing run of roles in TV and film right now? Like that's not even me being a feminist killjoy, that's some seriously low hanging fruit because they're both attached each to two wildly popular and acclaimed shows on television right now. Put the two together to talk about working with Rian Johnson, David Lynch, Jane Campion, and their seasons of GoT, Top of the Lake, Twin Peaks, and Big Little Lies. Like who wouldn't want to read something like that, versus what we're getting? Hell, run with the crack I made about how Ache-to sounds like Eugene O'Neill in space and hint at something of a back story besides "Luke is super depressed and unsure."

Did anyone else notice this quote by Rian Johnson?

'Similar to Rey’s parentage, Snoke is here to serve a function in the story. And a story is not a Wikipedia page.'

I think Rian was trying to make a comparison here because he said don't expect any elaborate backstory. Does this mean we won't know specific details on Rey's parents beyond the information that is relevant to the story?

I read it a few times and wasn't sure what to make of it! No elaborate back story makes sense because Rian's already said he wasn't really getting in to Snoke's origins in TLJ.
I doubt we'll get a definitive answer to who Rey's parents are either.

I already imagined we'd be let in on the irrefutable fact that Rey isn't blood related to the Skywalkers, but we also wouldn't know who her actual parents are.  This falls in line with that.

They've already been doing that since December 2015. I don't see the point of adressing the issue now unless Rian was thinking of giving out some definitive answers....

By this point we have plenty of confirmation that Rey doesn't get a warm welcome from Luke.  If she's his child and he dumped her (even for her own safety) on a junk planet as child labor to fend for herself at age 7 or so, and then he has zero interest in seeing his long-lost daughter at 19, then everyone's favorite Jedi has become a real jerk.  And I just don't see that happening.  Zealot, sure.  Odd duck, definitely.  But relationships were always key to Luke, so that just doesn't work for me-- and I'm not sure why Luke fans would even WANT that for him.

I think that is what he means, which is fine by me. We just need her surname, the details can be fleshed out in tie-in books.

I've seen quite a lot of fans are upset by some of the content of these interviews regarding Leia's relationship with Ben, and what seems to be her 'rejection' of her son in favour of Poe. As a long time SW and Leia fan, I need to say something here.

First of all, as many of us acknowledge, Leia is more like Anakin than Padme. She isn't very forgiving, as shown in the recent tie in novels. and like her father has a tendency to use anger as a way to hide her hurt. These are qualities she shares, ironically with her son. And at the moment she's terribly hurt. She was the only one who still had faith in her son, who trusted him to do the right thing. And her trust was betrayed in the most awful way. He killed the love of her life. She also might be carrying a lot of guilt, as she was the one who urged Han to try and bring Ben back. Now she probably thinks Ben is gone, that he's been consumed by Kylo Ren. Deep inside she still loves him, but she thinks her boy is lost and in her grief, both for Han and Ben, she's turned to the man who reminds her of Han and also is a surrogate child for comfort. It doesn't mean she doesn't love Ben,but simply that at the present moment she thinks he's as dead as his father.
That's how I see it. Tragically Ep 9 probably would have seen the two reconciled, and forgiving each other but Carrie's passing now means it isn't going to happen. Hopefully they'll find a way to show that there is peace between mother and son in a manner that doesn't disrespect Carrie's memory.

Leia is my long-time favorite of the OT3; she's been one of my favorites since childhood. I buy her grief for sure and even her giving up on Ben after he betrayed and killed his father/her husband.

As a mother, I don't buy for an instant Poe somehow replacing Ben and I hope that's not something TPTB did with Leia's character. No one replaces a lost child, no matter what the child did.
