With everything else set to happen in TLJ, Rey is going to build a saber?  Why? when LF has just made a big deal out of naming Anakin's saber,
"Rey's Saber"......

All jedi without exception go through the ritual of constructing their own lightsaber as part of the training process - everyone goes through it and the Heir to the Jedi novel goes through a lot of trouble explaining how Luke learned the art of lightsaber construction as part of his learning to become a jedi so am sure Rey will go through the same.

LF marketing has called the legacy lightsaber 'Rey's lightsaber' but that doesn't mean she will not learn the art of constructing one for herself as part of her training and own a second lightsaber. As PH has said, we don't know if the legacy lightsaber is going to become her own lightsaber or whether it has to be taken back to Luke....and even if it is hers, she could always possess a second lightsaber like Ahsoka.

Either way, the blade is no longer considered Anakin’s lightsaber by the Lucasfilm marketing department. It has now officially been dubbed “Rey’s.”

I was reading this article about the 10th anniversary of The Sopranos finale, and I came across an interesting quote about a pivotal scene that the producers didn't want leaked and spoiled, so it was shot two ways, solely to keep the final outcome a secret until it aired.

Wow that is fascinating. And I can't believe this week is the 10th anniversary of the last episode of the Sopranos. It seems like yesterday!

It wouldn't surprise me in the least if this is what Disney was going. They spent I think a total of five million dollars to keep things tight lipped so it doesn't shock me at what a hard time MSW (or anybody for that matter) is having at gaining actual concrete spoilers. All they've gotten so far is aesthetics, costumes and ships, etc. And heck, they can't even get their interpretation of the costumes right. (Vader cape, anyone?).

Rey's 2nd saber does not have an emitter like Luke's... so

This makes me all the more convinced that Rey is building her own lightsaber since this game lightsaber lacks the blade emitter from Luke's lightsaber and the rear grip from Obi-wan's lightsaber....I think its a lot more exciting for Rey to make her own destiny and not have to live in the shadow of ancestors.

Pretty sure that is a schematic of Obi Wan's and I am not the only one who thinks so. It could just be a shorthand way of explaining lineage. When Rey makes her own, why not make it something special like a double bladed saber, that suits her life skills so much better and it would be BASAZZ

I am going by the technical specifications of the lightsaber and not hearsay...and the rear grip is a big piece of that lightsaber, not some tiny insignificant portion - if you check the rear of the hilt of Obi-wan's lightsaber, the ribbed portion is the rear grip.

In the novel Heir of the Jedi, we find out that dismantling the hilt of a lightsaber could damage the crystal and it is impossible to put the lightsaber back together.....so it would be ridiculous for Rey to dismantle a lightsaber just to remove one piece....hence, am 100% certain that is neither Luke nor Obi-wan's lightsaber.

And Rey could own the legacy lightsaber and make her own....in legends, didn't Mara Jade own the legacy lightsaber but make her own purple one?

If we're getting into schematics, then why are we supposed to look at that tiny blade emitter as proof of identity? One can argue that is also missing because it is not an 'exact representation'.

If we look at the legacy lightsaber in the game design, the ribbed grip of the lightsaber is visible....if the new lightsaber was Obi-wan's lightsaber, the ribbed rear grip would also be depicted. since the designers seem to have no issue showing a ribbed design in the legacy lightsaber in the same game.



Even Maul's lightsaber in the game is shown in great detail, including every switch and partition.

Rey's lightsaber is simillar to both: Luke's and Obi Wan's lightsabers. But it is also different from both. I think that she will make her own lightsaber and this is the one.

You are right @panki. Mara Jade has two lightsabers: the legacy saber and the purple one which she made herself.

In the Hair of the Jedi, Luke deconstructed Huulik's lightsaber and couldn't put the lightsaber back together. He learned that the Jedi needed to use the Force when aligning the kyber crystals.

I'm of the same mindset. There is absolutely no way the writers are going to spoiler one of the biggest mysteries of this trilogy, Rey's parentage, through a videogame a month before the movie comes out. No way, and you can't tell me that this just happened to slip through the cracks.

Sure, it's cool to speculate and have some fun with it - there's nothing wrong with that. I wouldn't dive too deep with it though.

As far as Rey building her own lightsaber, I love the idea. We've never seen this before and it's be completely new to the franchise, even if it has been covered in other media outside the movies. I don't really think it would take up that much screen time and at the same time it's be informative and interesting.

If Rey is a Skywalker like I don't think she is, Reylo won't be romantic because incest is not part of Star Wars lore. Bar that any of the other options could be good and romantic Reylo to be done on the screen.

That's a really good point. If their devs are anything like the devs that I know, I could very well see one of them intentionally using that image as a placeholder (especially if he/she is a Rey Kenobi-ist). I know that the demo versions of the software that I've worked on tend to be full of Simpsons/Star Wars/Game of Thrones/Breaking Bad references that are never intended to be publicly viewed.
